Several forms are displayed and each of them contains a plot. Just like the different figures in Matlab. Each them contains one button to edit the figure properties. When I click the edit button on the non-activated form, the no reponse from the edit button for the first click! That means I always have to click or actiavate the non-activated form first, then the edit button can response. Obviously, this is not convenient. How to avoid the this problem?

Yes!
I can not solve this problem.
I think this is the common problem and I believe there should be the solution, but I can not find it.
I think most people can easily meet this problem once he use more forms and switch the process to different forms. But so far no one give me one solution for this.

Hi.
I have a client for a web service written in C#. It's task is to send some files as SOAP attachments to the web service.
It works fine, but occasionally, if the files are large, the service throws a TimeoutException.
I saw that it is possible to set the timeout value to infinite(default is 15 seconds), thus avoiding the exception.
My question(s): Is it a "bad practice" to do this? I mean, if it solves these kind of problems, why isn't the timeout set to infinite by default? Are there any bad repercussions if I always do this?

Isn't it obvious? What if something goes wrong? The service will be waiting forever. By setting a timeout period, you guarantee that the service will eventually give up and resources can be reclaimed. Infinite timeouts are a bad idea. You would need to judge how long to set your timeout period based on the amount of time you expect is required to upload a file.

Web services are not designed to transfer large files. A simple solution is to have the web service return a URI to a file that can be downloaded outside of the SOAP wrapper.

Well, this particular web service has two. There's no other way. By large file I mean up to 4 MB. But in the future they intend to allow sending files up to 30MB.

There are infinite amounts of other methods, I suggest that you strongly recommend one of the more acceptable ones before adjusting timeouts.

Convert the bits to HEX digits in groups of four. Fill any data structure (string array, List<string>) will 16 values, which will have the binary codes for each HEX digit:
0000
0001
0010
...
1110
1111
Then traverse the string of ones and zeroes, group them by four and look at the index where the match occurs in your collection. That index is the corresponding hex digit. (For 11,12,..., 15 you replace them with A, B,..., F)

Well, i'm not sure on efficiency, but this is the only way i know:
string binary = "11001100";<br />
string hex = Convert.ToString(Convert.ToInt32(binary, 2), 16);
Basically, Convert.ToInt32, converts the string binary from a string of numbers with base 2, into an int.
Then Convert.ToString converts from an int, to base 16 (hex).
You may then want to pad left with 0's, i say want, you will probably need to.
So, you need to read a few characters (no less than 4) and convert it into hex as shown above, then write that to a file. Read the next set of characters, convert, write. And repeat.
8 characters would be 1 byte, 16 would be a half word (2 bytes) and 32 would be a word (4 bytes).
You may also need to do a little formatting on the string, i'm not sure if it comes out as "0xFF" or just "FF" (in the case of reading 8 characters, all 1's)

Somehow an app I've written is generating this exception and I could use some help figuring out how. In the VS debugger the app stops at the Application.Run line when the exception occurs and the Exception helper doesn't offer anything that seems useful, just a statement that memory is corrupt somewhere. The stacktrace doesn't offer much either other than to tell me that it's crashing in some native Windows Forms method (full stacktrace below). To make things even easier, I can't even nail down a repeatable process to recreate the exception, it just seems to happen every now and then when I perform certain steps in the GUI.
I've followed all of the suggestions that I can find on MSDN and the rest of Google, but to no avail. Things that I've already tried include removing all references to unmanaged code, reinstalling .Net and double buffering elements of the GUI. Can anyone offer any advice or ideas on how to diagnose this?

The crash has probably happened in native code inside a GUI component that you're using. For any more information you'll have to use the native code debugger, then you might get more information.

1. You should always use parameters to do this. Don't fall a victim to Sql Injection attacks[^].
2. The dates are not in a format that is being recognised in the server. For instance, if your date is 23/06/07 and your database is running with American format, it won't recognise this as a valid date - even though it is a valid date in the UK. Try passing dates across in UTC format instead.

My date is 28.11.2007 and Db is saving dates like 28.11.2007:00:00:00 ... when i search it from textboxes
getting "The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value." this error.
Whhats the problem ?

just to proove Pete is right, try typing into the textbox 2007-11-28 instead of 28.11.2007
I pretty much guarantee it'll work.

Well, if you solve the SQL Injection Attack problem you automatically solve your date problem too. Long story short: Use parameterised queries!

Sorry to be picky, but that's not how the database is saving it. It's how it's being displayed which is a completely different issue altogether.
