Hi,
I need to advice from the experienced web designers. I am looking at working through the Yahoo user interface API, and I was wondering if there is a tool/program/IDE available that is up-to-date with the XHTML and CSS standards. I want to use it solely for my web designs. I don't always want to open up a project in VS2005 just to create a web page. I would prefer if the tool is free.
And another thing, I am also looking at a good XML tool.

Hi Guys and Gals.
I am trying to create a Dynamic Image in Crystal Reports. Now, when I do this in the full version of Crystal Reports 11, It works fine, but the moment I use the Build-in Crystal of .NET, I cant get this picture control to display a different image.
Can anyone please guide me on how to solve this problem please?

P.S. In Crystal 11, If you right click on the object and go to Format Picture, Picture Tab has an option that reads: Graphic Location. If you click on the Conditional Formula Button, you can specify the field that contains the location to the picture. Dont have this option in .NET.

I am an inexperienced programmer (hobbyist) trying to write a program in C++ that a web server can interface with. The application runs like a server app and the web server should act as a front end for it. I can write the application but do not know how to add the necessary interfaces for it.
I ruled out CGI since my program has to run continuously. I am looking at COM, but I want to be able to port it to LINUX and I understand COM does not work on LINUX. Ideally, I was targetting something that would work with the Apache http server.
Any suggestions anyone? Is there a common interface scheme that will work under Windows and LINUX for Apache?

I am not sure this answers the question as it sounds making my App network capable when I wanted to avoid this. Hopefully this will explain better what I was hoping for.
1) The application I want to write is like a virtual world, with things going on in it all the time. It runs continuously like a service or a deamon.
2) Other applications on the same machine should be able to communicate with it, sending commands/requests and getting results.
3) I specifically wanted a web server to communicate with it. This makes it easy to reach the world via the internet, and design interfaces via html forms/widgets/whatever. That way my clients only need a internet connection and a browser. Also, I don't have to get into TCP/IP, firewall and other issues.
So I guess I am designing a back end application for a web server to work with, but I don't know how to give it an interface the web server can talk to. I also was hoping there was a cross platform scheme I could use so that it can be done on Windows and LINUX.
Any suggestions?

I am trying to work through the Amit Kalani 70-315 book, I tried to open an existing project and I now get this message
"Unable to get the project file from the web server. Unable to open Web project '315C05Exercises_new'. Unable to
validate that the file path'C:\inetpub\wwwroot\315Exercises_new' matches the URL path'http://localhost/315C05Exercises_new'.
Access is denied."
I am using Visual Studio.NET 2003 and I am running on Vista Home Premium.
Can anyone please help?

#1. Check whether you have IIS installed in your machine or not. ( if you dont have, install it. and remap IIS with VS 2003)
#2. Create the virtual directory called "315C05Exercises_new" in IIS and map with the physical path eg: "C:\inetpub\wwwroot\315Exercises_new".
#3. double-click the project file (instead of .sln) to open the project.

When i'm inserting a record formview will fire a method, that method is calling a stored procedure. If Stored Procedure is return error i want to keep data in my formview.

Hi All,
I have a CheckBox List and a GridView Control and some div tags in my form. For each Check box item selected, we will change the div tag and once the data is changed in the controls in the Div tag, then we will click a Save Changes Button which will update the Contents of the GridView.
Here in the Page Load i am firing some events through the javascript to display the DIV according to the selected checkBoxListItem. In the pageLoad, i am able to get the Work done very fine. And after the Update Panel content is updated, the Script is not functioning as the Client script is rendered in the Body onload of the corresponding page.
Please Help in this Regard.

When Firefox 3 is released, Javascript 1.8[^] will be shipped with FX3.
Does anyone have any idea whether Microsoft will added the Javascript 1.7 or 1.8 in IE6/IE7 or not?

I doubt it.
Microsoft has been very quiet in general on what they're doing when it comes to actually improving the in-browser JScript; sure, there's JScript.NET and the JScript built into Silverlight / DLR, but those aren't all that interesting if you're just trying to do some client-side scripting on a website.
And now in the past week we've had this blow-up over the future of ES4 (which is what MS would implement; Javascript is a Mozilla thing)... it's starting to look an awful lot like MS does not wish to make any significant changes when it comes to JScript-in-the-browser, and isn't exactly wild about bringing in new language features elsewhere either. It sounds suspiciously like they're planning on using Silverlight and DLR to drag us back to the "of course you can use VB for web scripting!" days... 
Of course, there's more than just Microsoft. But as cool as ScreamingMonkey[^] sounds, i can't really see it getting the sort of wide-spread distribution that'd be needed to make a difference.

If you want to use code behind then it's extremely difficult to integrate Dreamweaver into a cohesive flow. If, however, you want a powerful easy(ish) to use web environment then Dreamweaver is excellent. Alternatively, you could always look at Expression Web (from Microsoft) - it's not too bad at all.

Ah, but the Meyer is because you can download his projects without having had to buy the books - and see how he put them together. I always show people that link if they need CSS and let them go "Wow - it's free."

I'm having some issues with binding an xml document to a menu control. I have an xml file and it has every possible link in it. I'm trying to create some security to the menu by filtering out the nodes that the user does not have access to. If the user does not have access to the link I remove it from the xml file. Onces its finished going through the xml file I bind it to the menu. It works for the first person that logs into the site. But if somone else logs in and they have different access they are getting the same menu as the first person that logged in. So it seems that who ever logs into the site first it gives that menu to everyone. I run it locally as one user and then login as another user I get the same menu. The only time it changes is when I rebuild the project. I verified its running everytime by saving the new xml file with the users name in it. The user is seeing links that's not in there xml file. It always uses the xml file of the user that first logged into the site. I'm at a loss and need some help. What am I missing or do I need to go in a different direction? Here is my code ...

am writing an app that uses the .Net classes TCPClient and NetworkStream to read and write data between 2 machines. All works fine.
I have recently found a need to be able to send Http 1.1 with a SOAP message as the Http body. Currently i am using an XmlDocument to load and parse the SOAP data. However to do this i first have to read in the HTTP header, search for the beginning of the body and construct my own XmlDocument.
There must be a better way. I don't want to call a web service, i just want to send http with a soap body and receive the same.
I am looking for a means of loading in the NetworkStream into some kind of HTTP object to read the http stuff and also load the body into some simple Soap object that can be used to pull out/ set values.
