Hi guys
Is there any way by which we can modify BMP file metadata to add comments to the file , i.e set the properties in the image file .
Please suggest some solution to this .

Hello,
I have code like
window.open(strurl, strwinName)
where strWinName's value is coming from database.
User can enter value like [ABC]0001, ABC^001, if these value is assigning to strWinName then in Internet explorer getting error like 'Invalid arguments', but this works fine in firefox.
Here problem in windows name, if we have any special characters like [,] or ^ then it is throwing error, How can I escape these characters any work around is appreciated.

How is this a work or training issue? Apart from the obvious - that you need more training to accomplish this.
Anyways - as we're here, if you're coding in .NET you could use HttpServerUtility.HtmlEncode. In Javascript, you can use escape on the string, i.e. escape(url).

This is a work issue. javascript escape function was also throwing error. HtmlEncode I will check.

Suppose I am developing an application for a bank that has about 7 types of customers. Then the class diagram would consist of one customer base class and 7 inherited classes. Each class would be having thier own methods. But when we(in our company) apply this in code we create only a single class file that encapsulate all the functions, properties etc the application needs. That is we are not creating individual classes as it would be depicted in a typical class diagram. I want to know whether this is the right way or not.
If we follow the class diagram then our application should have 8 classes(a base class and 7 derrived class). Then there should be another class that contains some general functions to handle the database, etc.
Please suggest the proper Object Oriented way of implementing such a scenario.

I would go like that:
As you said a base class and 7 sub classes.
So according to the DB I would build up a class that works for the general one and then some classes for the sub classes.
I think that is a clean solution.
Because if someone has to redesign or change some stuff in your code he would thank you if you keep thinks apart and easy to read into.
What do you think?

i have downloaded a file for installation of sqlserver 2005 management studio. In the properties of that file the type of file is shown as "file". i have seen this type of file first time. when i try to open this file an "open with" dialog box opens and i don't know with which program it will open. plz guide me how to open and install it. remember file type is "file".thx

There is no executable with an extension of "file". Where did you download this things from?? Are you using SQL Server 2005 Express??

Management Studio is an .MSI, not a .FILE. All you have to do to install it is double-click the icon.
If the file extension isn't right, the file is either corrupted, or you changed the extension when you got the File Save dialog when you downloaded it.
I would suggest downloading it again.

By "file" are you saying that it displays file in the Type column of the Explorer window? Try adding the extension (.MSI) - it may be missing just that...

That information is built into the MSI. When you create the installer, you can customize the install sequence, which is also used when uninstalling. There are conditions you can set on the actions in the install sequence that define when it should run (allways, install only, uninstall only).
Look at the documentation for the application you are using to build your installer or on MSDN.

it's a long story so bear with me.
i've been working as a designer and programmer for this company for the past 2 years, and did quite a few of the more complex modules.
now, the company developed the software i'm working on for another company, who brought their own people to help us code the product in a reasonable amount of time (the project was supposed to end 6 months ago, and is still in the process of being built).
i've transfered most of the modules i designed and quite of few of those i coded to other people in that time, but as i'm usually a helpful person i didn't hasitate to lend a hand when they needed some things explained or designed (i'm also considered one of the strongest developers and about the only person to have an idea about software detailed design in the department).
so, most of the modules aren't my responsibility for a few months, and most people are away on holiday while a sub version is going out to the client for testing, and lo and behold, a few of the modules that were originally mine aren't working as expected (i gave them out in working order, it seems the people who took over them did some "quirks" to the system), and before i know it, i'm being demoted (in application, this can't hurt my salary or terms) to programmer, and basiclly being handed the entire bag of poo.
(this does not prevent everyone coming to me for help, since unlike the team leaders and senior architects i'm a nice person who is always willing to answer questions and help with problematic code)
now, back to my personality, i'm a rather shy person, and i don't do well in personal interviews so much (i got this job by the simple fact they did the professional test first, and the fact i passed it with flying colors was enough to offset the horrible personal interview)
the question all this is leading to, is should i just give them the finger and try to find a new job, or swallow my pride and stay on with the project.

It never hurts to consider your options. If you are not happy, it would be a good idea to get your resume in order and start looking out for new jobs. Whatever you do, don't "give them the finger" on your way out the door. Keep it professional and remember that it's up to you to look out for your own best interests.
You should be a little worried about the "demotion" that you mentioned. A lower title could make it harder to move to another job and maintain/bump your salary.

Hi All,
I am having some issues at work. We mostly only affer hosting for the sites that we do the development on ourselves. But now we have some inexperianced developers that work for some of our clients uploading crapy code to our production environment, and yesterday it actualy brought down our server, and was quite a big deal.
I was wondering if anyone else here has had any similar issues.
I mean there are several hosting companies our there allowing anyone and everyone to upload code to their server, and there has got to be some kind of protection from these kind of issues. I have not been with the company long, but can see that this could be a seroous problem. Especialy when most of our revinue is generated by development.
I am doing some research myself, but wanted to see if anyone here had any ideas.
