Hello,
My MSDN files are affected when I downloaded new version of internet explorer.
When I press F1 I get the message saying "One or more ActiveX controls could not be displayed"
MSDN files are now HTML files .
What Should I do to revert them back?

I was researching on this tool Acunetix Web Application Vulnerability Scanner (http://www.acunetix.com/[^]) for testing websites. I was just wondering if someone else has used this tool and has any comments regarding its licensing model featureset etc.
Also, if some could suggest a similar other tool, preferably as a freeware, it would be great.

We have a complex CPU-bound single-threaded 'console' application that takes 4 times longer to run on a dual processor Xeon box with Windows 2003 Server installed than when the same box has XP installed. (I've been swapping the operating systems on it). I am the only user on the machine, and this is the only application on it.
To make things more complicated, if I run the application in an XP Virtual PC on the same Windows 2003 Server, the application runs 4 times faster again!
I have heard that this could be because memory is allocated differently on servers, can anybody corroborate this? How can we change our application to improve run-times on Windows 2003 Server?

Hi all,
I want to know whether it is possible to switch from one shell to another in windows xp (I actually want this for Windows XP embedded, but I figure if one for XP is available, porting it to the embedded version won't be much of a problem..), without having to reboot or log off. I am aware of some shell managers that are available, which are able to do just that. But how do I create my own application for it? What are the concepts involved?

I've got a machine where the HTM and HTML files have recently lost their associativity with Internet Explorer and open via Notepad instead. When trying to fix this, I notice that Internet Explorer does not show up in the "Open With" list.
I've looked at the HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.htm\OpenWithList key and it matches up fine with a different machine that works.
Any ideas how to get IE back in the "Open With" list?

Try looking instead at the Classes Root directory.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.htm\OpenWithList
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.html\OpenWithList
Add IE if it is not already there.

hai friends,
in my room, due to lack of air flow, my system is getting heated up.
is this the only reason why my system is getting heated up?
because, when i run the task manager and see the performance, then it seems to be reasonable and hte processor is certainly not busy due to the daemons and back running programs,
kindly confirm my doubt.

If you over-clock your CPU heat would/could become an issue.
Define lack of air flow: No air conditioning? Hermetically sealed? No windows?

1st of al ur assumption is right.
But this can happn due to following.
This condition will arises if u have takem a very long time after u have last work on it.
Somtimes in very short time this may happen cause of computions and large amount of applications are running simuntaniously.
This can be reduce by external cooling(Air/Water[yes! It is also available and it is very efficient])

iam damn sure that, my system is not haveng any back running huge applications when it turned slow.
i confirmed the same from task manager.

The usual culprits for a suddenly slow system are a recently updated virus scanner, a virus, a bloated registry or a hardware problem. You can usually check if your system is clocking itself back to avoid overheating by looking in the BIOS after a reboot or with tools provided with the motherboard if you built the system yourself. The BIOs should at least should you the CPU temperature. If it's < 55 for an Intel or < 65 for an AMD then I'd be surprised to see any slow down at all. Much more likely a software/virus/OS problem.
Nothing is exactly what it seems but everything with seems can be unpicked.

with reference to my previous post

jerry has suggested me to go for a batch file.
but i tried ipconfig from the command line and iam unable to change the ip address.
iam able to only see it here.
can anybody suggest some command through which i can change the ip address from command line.

this problem is solved by one of my colleagues using netsh command.
any more suggestions are welcome.

setting the ip address is ok.
but to set the preferred dns server and alternate dns server through netsh is not achieved.
any ideas?

Why don't you just set up two network connections on the same NIC, and then enable/disable them depending on which network you want to use? Two clicks to change connections, and they'll hold all the relevant IP/DNS information for you.

the wizard is taing me through a couple of screens and on clicking finish, nothing happens.
i contacted my network administrator also, but he could not solve it.
remember that,
i have only on network card in my system.

hi all,
i am facing this problem recently. I am using Windows XP Professional.after my machine is booted, the local area network alone takes time (say 10 min) to load(dont know a better word) to appear in the system tray. in that 10 mintues duration, i am not able to do work on any environment.
I am not able to open a word/excel/pdf documents.When i open Visual Studio and run any application, it says binding handle is invalid.
When i contacted my administrator, he says there is virus in the machine and has to be formatted.
But after that initial 10 mints(i mean after the local area network is loaded) i am able to continue working as usual and i have no problems.And i scanned my machine for viruses.it says no virus .
Could there be a possibility of spyware??
What could be the problem? has anyone faced this before?
I dont particularly like to format my machine.

It's probably not a virus or spyware. After you login, hit Ctrl-Shift-Esc to bring up Task Manager. Click on the Processes tab and see which process is taking up all the CPU's time.
We has an issue around here where it was a home-brewed AutoArchive app running out of the domain login script that hung the machine for about 10 minutes.
