Shortly, HTML refers more or less to static sites (content is not easily updatable). ASP is a dynamic web page development technology whereby you can connect your web page to a database or whatever and have your content updated without having to go in the code. However, ASP.NET is the newer and easier to use version of ASP (to some extent) and it gives the possibility of building web pages using any of your favourite languages found in Visual Studio.NET framework (usually people use C#, VB.NET or J# to code their ASP.NET pages).

Editable column in Datagrid

I have a datagrid in my page which has 5 columns.
While first column being a template column with item template a checkbox and followed by 3 bound column.
The last column is a EditCommand column.

The problem which i face is when the Edit is clicked in EditCommand column the bound column are getting changed to editable mode in a textbox. But i couldnt access the text entered by the user in these editable columns which has to bo updated.
i tried typecasting the controls[0] property of the item to textbox and access it but the text value is empty.

Similar is the case for checkbox.
Kindly help me out.

Make the column as readonly..

Making the column readonly will only restrict user from editing the column. ofcourse i have made the columns which i dont want the user to edit as read only.
But the column which should be edited by the user cannot be set as readonly. i need to know how to access the data entered by the user in the editable column.

yes i tried this and also the other i.e in OnEditCommand event

TextBox txtTemp = (TextBox)e.item.Cells[2].Controls[0];

and then used the Text property of txtTemp.
But i am getting the value as empty even after the user has entered some text.

Are you getting me??
Kindly help me out.

Hi
Im using Fusion Charts.
My problem is that i have a page that generates a chart BUT the page itself does not seem to be able to store the value of a variable. Cos I want to print out the objects values in a panel next to the chart.
It looks like the Fusion Chart uses Javascript, i dont know if this is the problem here.

What i think could solve my problem was if i could create a page within a page. So ie. my panel could be in one page and the chart in another.Kind of like Outlook. If this will help, will someone please help me out with how to go about doing this??

HI

In my page i have 2 search Buttons

1. DB search (3 Textboxes)

2. Local search (5 Textboxes)

I gave the DB and Local search textboxes RequiredFieldValidators for validation

When i click Local search button DB serach validation working

How can i fix this

i put RequiredFieldValidator's for both search fields

when i click search 2 button the search 1 textboxs validation are working

i want to do is when i click search 2 button only search 2 textboxs validation shud work

I have given u solution .
read my first post.

use ValidationGroup Property for both.

Give ValidationGroup="group1" for DBs RequiredFiledValidators,Textboxes and Buttons
and Give ValidationGroup="group2" for other RequiredFiledValidators,Textboxes and Buttons
