ASP.NET Ajax doesn't support in .NET 1.1.
So, you have to choose other Ajax frameworks.. there are a lot of free ajax framework for ASP.NET 1.1. Check-out the link below if you interest..

If you are good at Javascript, you can probably use Prototype Javascript Library.

I have data I want to filter it according to 3 caracters. the problem is that it is in a details view control.

Your client disable Javascript on his/her browser?
It is not possible to change the client's setting from web application. It is for security reason. So, what all you can do is that check whether the Javascript is enabled or disabled for the user's browsers. If it is disabled, you should check the validation from code-behind.
Since Ajax web application are so popular day by day, I don't care about those users who are disable the Javascript in my project. But Yes, the requirement may be varied from project to project....

You can not. That would mean intruding into user's personal browser preferences. I would say, you can have a disclaimer or an instruction to the user about required support for JavaScript in the web browser for your application to perform normally without insanity.

I implemented paging in datalist,But only with next and previous Buttons.It is working fine.suppose a user wants to go to 10 th page means, he need to click the next button 10 times.He cant directoly reach in page 10.Please help me to solve this problem and i need to display the recors number also...

You can add a pager template then add a dropdown list box on that template which shows the page number. So every time you select on that dropdown the datalist will cange according to the page number you selected. =p

I did the following to fill tha datagrid
1.Through the vb code ,dyanmically add the template column and bound column in my datagrid.
In that template column i add a link button .
2.In the page load call the function to fill the datagrid
3.In datagrid item command event i wrote the code for the link button to redirect to someother page.
4.It's working properly
5.Next I add a button in the page
6.In the button click event i wrote the code to delete the selected items in the grid.
7.It's not working
8. If i write the code in the page load like this,

the button event is working. But link button event is not working.
9..If i simply call the funtion FillDataGrid() in page load means Link button event is working,

i have multiple web pages and when i move from one page to another though the control moves to the other page but when i user this.PreviousPage it gives null value

I am using asp.net and C# Visual studio 2005.
Let me explain the scenario. I have stored procedure which return very no of column based on condition. Becoz I have to show columnwise record I used datalist.
And becoz of query return different no of column based on condtion I created template class for design and itembinding at run time .
I manage to create template column() but confuse over how to bind data. As no of column differ at runtime.

I have a formview bound to a SqlDataSource which I use to insert a record to the database. for this newly inserted record, I want to generate a unique ID programmaticaly - (say ProjectID) and assign it to the formview control (PropertyIDLabel). a method createPropertyID() generates a PropertyID & returns it, but I don't know how I can set this value to the formview control. Can somebody help - immediately please???
