Same here. I have several different sigs that are different on both my desktop and laptop. I use my sig history as a way of telling which machine I was at. Not that it is of importance to anyone but me, and it really isn't that important to me.

I want the sigs to remain the way they are. Same for the profile names.

Yes it is redundant data storage, features of software should be driven by the users of the software not technical concerns. Sometimes it's absolutely necessary to store data redundantly for the benefit of the end users.

So store the sigs in a table separate from the user profile and the messagepost. Then link the sig to the message and the current sig to the profile.

So how do you search a sig then? Sounds like exactly the sort of thing that in my judgement I'd keep as it is, trying to get unnecessarily efficient is often the road to hell.

While casually browsing through Lounge, this permalink (http://www.codeproject.com/lounge.asp?msg=2138204#xx2138204xx[^]) elicited my interest. But I was curious, whether the following suggestion has been posted earlier and already part of CP Team's Todo. In that case, let me regret in advance for the duplicated request.
Suggestion:
Can we have a messageboard category exclusively for Hosting (Web Hosting) at least dedicated to .NET and related stuff? Time and again there had been requests for host suggestions scattered across different boards and I think this would provide a one-stop review shop for the reader.
I know that this would increase the work load of Community Police. In the sense one more messageboard has to be monitored by them for 'Technical Questions' like 'How to paginate in a Datagrid'. But that is a different fun thread anyway!

I would like to see something like this in the broader context of setting yourself up as a professional programmer - hosting, social networking for programmers, how to evaluate a technical conference for its ROI, how to advertise shareware, how to use google services such as AdSense, how to get started setting up your own consulting/shareware software company, where to find resources, reviews of useful software tools, tips on incorporating.
Let's plan ahead for what we might want in the future, instead of creating message boards one at a time.

I like the idea of that. As a company owner, it would have been of interest to me to get ideas from others about issues such as research/marketing/budgeting, etc.

At least when there is a new idea to be rolled out and/or started, we can have a quick brainstorming or search the previous experiences shared by similar users.

Long ago I suggested a WIKI style FAQ for CodeProject. The idea went no where, but what you mention could just as easily apply to "how do I clean my lcd screen" "what's the best digital camera", "what do you all use for XXX?" etc etc.

I agree. In a way, it would open up Pandorra's box. We may then need also to step-up Community Policing and more vigilant moderation practices to maintain the forums clean and beautiful.

Timespan to load: 1 minute to 1 minute 25 seconds.
I am browsing this from India (VSNL Broadband and Airtel Broadband same results).
But I don't think there is any issue with my Internet pipe since messageboards, articles and other URLs in CP are quite fast. I think, CP Team should address this page on a priority basis since it contains valuable contact information like Media Kit, Webmaster contact, Affiliations etc.

Could a "Spoiler" option be added to the "Message Type" menu? And could the message inside a "Spoiler" post have to be highlighted to be read, like on gaming forums? This would ensure that people don't accidentally read spoiler posts.

Instead of voting people out of the Lounge, have you considered reversing it? - People could post & vote in the Lounge only if they had been voted in?

To simplify your query are you visualizing something like this?
1) You post good threads in normal messageboards. Every vote you get CREDITs to your Vote Bank.
2) Now after accumulating certain credits, you can get that much of POSTs to submit or VOTEs to cast in special messageboards like Lounge and Soapbox?
This should be roughly similar to Yahoo Answers system. Isn't it?

My post was clear enough. I'm not going to try to second-guess Chris on how he implements it. Everyone is talking about how to get the idiots out of the Lounge. I'm suggesting something very basic, very simple: don't let them in to begin with.
