Hi,

I have a datatable called dtEmployeeData. In the datatable the Employee's name can sometimes be in there more then once(I get this data from a sql database). Now I can't change my select query, to bring back the employee name only once, as the his name is allowed to be in the gridview more then once(due to transaction history).

What I want to do now is, is to select only the name from that datatable, and only show his name once in a dropdownlist. I use this dropdownlist to show all the employee names, and the name must only appear once. How would I do this?

Here is my code I have so far:

        Dim dtEmployeeData As DataTable = New DataTable()<br />
        dtEmployeeData = BO.getData()<br />

        drpSort.DataValueField = "EmployeeName"<br />
        drpSort.DataTextField = "EmployeeName"<br />

Using this code, I get:

Abraham
Bennie
John
John

Peter
Stewart

I want to have the following:

Abraham
Bennie
John
Peter
Stewart

Hi, i think u can add some constraint to this datatable...here u can use UNIQUE constarint to employee name.....

Use DISTINCT statement in your SELECT query.

Eg:
    SELECT DISTINCT emp_name FROM emp_master

The above query would give you the unique names.

I need to select from a datatable, not the sql database. I need to do something like a groupBy in the datatable, on a certain column. Any idea how to do that?

i am using this code to scroll test from DB and on click of specific result i am opening another page showing its detail. my problem is as i ahve used repeater control it is scrolling text in multi lines i want a single line.

I have a question, when out aspx page is trying to access the SQL Server 2000 database than before this do we have to craete a user with the name of ASPNET in SQL Server 2000, or without creating this paticular user(its the default user of ASP.NET account) our aspx pages can also access the SQL Server 2000,I have already SQL Server 2000 running in "SQL Server Authentication Mode" so while crating the user do I have to create it in "Windows Authentication" or "SQL Server Authentication", can you provide some link where I could find complete steps for craeting the ASPNET user.

You dont need to create ASPNET user in SQL Server.

You can just use Windows Authentication to access SQL Server but dont forget to impersonate.

In Web.Config, put the following line.

  identity impersonate="false"<br />

Thanks Michael, but I am working in SQL Server authentication mode and I want to continue working in SQL Server authentication mode than whats the solution.

Well, you can connect to SQL Server with sa account while you are using SQL Server Authenticatin Mode.

If you wanna add ASPNET account or any other local account to SQL Server, plz follow the steps

1. Go to User.
2. Click "new user"
3. There is one combobox or textbox with button at the top of "New User" dialog.
4. then chose the local user account (eg: ASPNET) from this list...

Hi in that link they used some procedure,
In that i dont know where the month value passing and where the year value passing...,
In backend coding its possible to get all dates of that month?,

I have an existing ASP.NET 1.x commerce site up and running, but with the IIS server "switch" set to 2.0, so it can accept new ASP.NET 2.0 pages and features.

I'd like to show someone an altered, fully-functional but non-public ASP.NET 2.0 version of the site. Can I place the entire "new" site, with bin file, .dll and all, in a subfolder, so that it can be viewed remotely, without interfering with the current 1.x site up in the root folder?

Yes.

In the Home Directory settings for the folder in IIS manager, press the Create button to create an application for the folder.

If you are using Server 2003, you have to make sure that applications that use framework 1.1 and applications that use framework 2.0 are in separate application pools.

To be clear, the site is hosted on a webhosting company's server which I have access to through FTP. I'm not sure if I can directly access IIS on their server, but I can ask them about it.

I take it from your answer, though, that just creating a subfolder in the root of my website's FTP folder and dumping the contents of the "test" website into it won't work?

i.e. ftp.mywebsite.com containing
- mywebsite's bin & .dll, aspx files, etc
- subfolder containing:
-- mytestsite's bin folder with .dll, aspx files, etc.

That's right. The applications are controlled by the settings in IIS, not by the files that you put in the folder.
