Hi
Im still running into a problem. It worked perfectly with my masterpage and content page but now i add another web form and select the masterpage but the new web form doesnt reflect masterpage, has none of the controls.

If your working with master pages, the first page you should create for your site is the master page.
By default, a single content place holder is created on the master page. If you add more than one content place holder, thats fine, but each of your content pages (e.g. form1.aspx / default.aspx) need to have the same amount of content place holders.
That said, if you want all of your content pages to have access to "X" control(s), these controls should be placed on the master page itself, not on the content pages.
The place holders on the master page are just that, containers that will be populated from the containers on each content page that inherits this master page.

Thanks for the reply.
I have only placed the controls so far on my masterpage. The first content page that i created, that inherits from the masterpage, worked perfectly.but then i added another webform and specified that it must also inherit from the masterpage.. but its not showing the controls that i placed in the masterpage.

I't hard to know whats wrong with out seing what you've done. Are you sure you did not add a control inside the content place holder on the content page?
I'd be glad to have a look, just post a link to the dl. Or, if you want I can make a simple mock up for you to dl.
I'm sure its something small you missed.

all i did was make a master page. place 2 images and a menu control in the masterpage.
Then added a new web form and selected the masterPage to inherit. It did not inherit the controls until I added a content placeholder to the masterpage.It then showed the controls in the webform.worked perfectly..but now i wanted to add another webform to the site.which i did, and also selected the masterpage but its not showing any of those controls from the masterpage.
dont understand why it worked perfectly for the 1st page but not the 2nd.
If u have a simple mock up for me i would greatly appreciate it.

Sorry..i just figured it out!
it was a very small thing.
on the 2nd content page,within one of the content placeholders, i right-clicked and saw the option of Default to Master's Content.
Solved all my problems!

You can download this one project, it was an example of using CSS, but you should be able to start the project, add pages, etc...

The contents needs to be placed outside the masterpage contenct place holder.
The place holder is for displaying the items of the page using the master page.
So place your textbox outside the placeholder and include the masterpage file in your actual page.
Hope you are now clear with the masterpage concept...
and remember there is no head html or body or form tag in pages with masterpage associated.

hi!
i have saved a brief history like a paragraphic way in the access database. wen i get the result, i get it with same line breaks and spaces i gave while writing text.
now prob is that wen i am trying to show this inforation on a literal control its coming in one line only.
how to get the data in the same way i entered while saving.

Use the string Replace method to replace all line breaks with an html <br> tag - in VB you would use something like
str.Replace(vbCrLf, "<br>")

I am currently working Asp.net with c#, inserting data from webform into sqlserver 2000 datatable.
table id column contain identity increment.It will increment id for every new recored.
I inserting 10 recoreds id 1 to 10 into table then deleted last two records (9&10) then inserting a new record
these record id having 11 insted of 9 in id column.
Plz help me .......

If you go with the Identity increment it will be automatically increment the record. Once the reords are inserted the id will be created for that record and if you delete the record then also the id will not get deleted it will go only where it stops and then it will increment, as you stated.
Instead if you go by coding for ID increment it will perform better.
And this is not the correct forum to ask your question.
Please put your question in the Sql/Ado.net forum.

The auto increment works like the increment in sql server. Therefore it is correct that the new row gets an id equal to 11. Otherwise, reusing 9 and 10 could lead to wrong data dependencies.
Furthermore I suggest to set an increment of -1 and a seed of -1. This way, all new data has negative values. When they are stored to the database the ids will be set by the database resulting in new positive values.

There is a requirement where i need to generate radio button dynamically.The scenario is like this, when the number of question is 3 then for each , we need to generate 6 radio button dynamically.And also need to populate the checked value in an object.Any pointers, highly appreciated.Thanks in advance!

hi guys,
I was wondering, how you could create web pages on the fly and then include them in your site. I'm thinking along the lines of a CMS or a portal where a page designer has the rights to design a page that inherits from the global master page(s). This new page is then incorporated in to the site.
Its the web page design that is giving me the headache, is it a series of templated webpages filled with webparts? doubt it.

Well you can use File and StreamWriter to create a new page on fly.

ASP.NET pages are always created on the fly. The aspx markup code is parsed into an object tree, which is then rendered into an html page. To make a page contain different contents, just put it in the object tree, and let it be rendered into a page.
So, creating extra pages is not needed at all. You can have a single page that displays contents that it gets from a file, a database, or anywhere you like.
