hello i dont know where i had to post this
I have a postonly.html page which send a "POST" xmlhttprequest at register.php

my problem is while query is complete (and table is updated) extremly fast(1-2 sec) as i can see
my database via Putty.exe

Responce of the

if(http.readyState == 4 && http.status == 200) 
			{
				alert(http.responseText);
			}

is takes about 15 sec (so the alert box pop up)

anyone knows any suggestion so it would be response faster? (my get method Ajax works fine and fast)

asp.net frequently called time consuming method

I have a time consuming method and I call it many times in my code.
Every time I call this method it hangs the system.
I need to call this function every time in a background thread, but I need to call it in the same thread every time.

Help me please.

Your procedure is returning int, you can get that in a table (adapter.fill(table) method) which will have one column and a row. and the you can access that int value using
int value = table.row[0];

Any way to implement Gridview paging without postback?

If I have a gridview containing products it automatically adds the page numbers to the bottom row and when the user clicks the number a postback is done and they are taken to page X listing the other products.

I'd like to make it more search engine friendly so that it doesn't do a postback to get to the next page of items in the gridview. Is that possible?

Only by either displaying all the data at once or implementing AJAX methods. The latter case would not be search engine friendly either.

I am using VS2003 and Sql server2000
how to create install shield to deploy my web application and auto create SQL server database and auto install .net framework and do the configuration to IIS automatically

please help me by sample code and some websites that describe this topic

one way is create a batch file which contains the sql query to create the database stuff and attach the batch file to run along with the installation shield for this you have known the user id and password coz its going to be hot coded.

Another way is create a windows application for creating database stuff and attach that exe to the installation shield.

as per my suggestion i ll go for creating windows application for creating database stuff. because we can get the sql server name, user id, and password from the user (in case there no database server installed in the machine we can handle that) and we can configure the web.config file thru this windows application.

I use one contentpage of my MySite.Master page as an Error-page. How do I redirect from that page to any other page after 5 seconds.

Either using a meta redirect or through javascript with setTimeout(funciton, time). Of course you should always provide a plain hyperlink in case the browser doesn't support either of these methods (or they don't want to wait 5 seconds)

Is there a way to find out what a user's default Media player is? We are running into a instance where Windows Media Player acts different that QuickTime Media player where WMP opens up in a new window to where QT opens up in the current window. Any kind of insight would be great.

I think you can't do this. You can take this value at the server side and put that to hidden textbox. Then you can show this message with javascript alert

There is no need for a hidden field. The text can be placed in a javascript variable during page load or init.

i found out the way to do it...set the string in server side from global resource file.
then in javascript alert , use it like this:

'<%=strVar%>'

so there no need for hidden textboxes.
