Not sure I know what you mean by "Text shown character by character in a label" but if you want top scroll horizontal text in a text field then look at the HTML marquee control.

I think you can do that with a javascript.
Use setinterval on a body onload event to get control every half second and write the next letter by setting the innerHTML of a span, div or paragraph to a substring that you expand by one letter every time you get control.
When the string is finished pause so the reader can see what it says, then erase it and start again.

Hi all,
In masked edit control, if there is an 'A' in the mask, that represents Only a letter or a custom character. but if i have a Mask like "AAABB-*****-##" where AAABB must be in the mask and user is not required to type it, * represents an alphabet and # represents a number . I can use L for *, 9 for #. Now the problem is when there is an A in the mask. how would i get a character A in the mask Instead of having A which represents Only a letter or a custom character.
hope u get my prob n i would be able to get my answer.

I have a label object and somewhat of a progress bar object that I want to display to the user to inform them to wait while the program is retrieving a customer record from the database. I am using a dataset to retrieve over a million or more rows back from the database. What is happening is that nothing is being display to the user while the data is being retrieve from the database. How can I make the objects (label and progress bar) to appear to the user while the dataset is retrieving records from the database. BTW, when I step through the code I notice the dataset.fill() process end in less than two minutes in retrieving over a +million rows but the gridview object doesn't display the content from the dataset. I look at Task Manager and the pf usuage is rising up to @1.5gb and cpu usuage is at 100%. Is the dataset object trying to write the +millions records to the gridview object eventhough the connection to the database to retrieve these records is less than two minutes.

Whatever you're doing, if you're trying to retrieve a million+ records from the database, you're doing it wrong. Think this through more carefully and come up with a solution that only retrievs the particular customer record, or a small subset contianing those you actually need.

A product I support backup most of the customers file to a server. The million+ records belong to one customer. This is the average records for most customers. The reason why the million+ records are pull each time because the people or group that are doing the search don't know the specific file to look for. They will want to pull every file from the server that were backup from this particular customer. I will take your advice in consideration as I try to cutdown on the number of retrieve records. However, do you know how I can make my label and simple progress bar to display while the records are being retrieve?
Any help is greatly appreciated,

In such a scenario I would use a "dummy" progress-bar - ie it's not actually displaying the number of records retreived so far, but just gives the user confidence that something is happening, perhaps an animated gif of some sort. I'd load this into an appropriate asp:image control using an AJAX call when the button to begin the download is clicked.
But still, I find your scenario strange. If you're trying to restore a backup there are quicker ways than retreiving a dataset and restoring from that; and it seems odd you'd need to restore just one customer's records; and if the "group that are doing the search don't know the specific file to look for" then having 1m+ records isn't going to help them any!
Whatever, you know your product, I hope... but if you're doing this on any kind of regular basis, I suggest there is something awry with the way things are done. Placing such a burden on the server / network (Internet?) seems to me, ignoramus that I am, quite absurd.

We have developed a web based application in CGI/perl and deployed the same application on local machine successfully in IIS 5.0. But the same application while deploying on the server IIS 6.0 we are facing some problems. This application is running under Integrated Windows authentication to establish trusted connection with the database.
Given below are the settings we have done in IIS are:
a) Mapped CGI application with IIS
b) Allowed CGI extension in the webservice extension
We are able to view the CGI application when the website is running under Anonymous Access but we are not able to view the application under Integrated Windows Authentication environment. It is giving us the error: Page cannot be displayed HTTP 500 Internal Server Error
Please help us...

I have a AJAX web page that has a long running query on it (about 10 seconds). Once the page is loaded, clicking an update button on the page causes the UpdateProgress to trigger as intended, and let the user know something is happening. My question is, how do I trigger the UpdateProgress on the initial page load, when the user first goes to the page? It sits there for 10 seconds, and then finally displays. I want the UpdateProgress to display right away, and then display the results when they are ready. I have tried putting code into the Page_LoadComplete, but this hasnt worked. Any clues to point me to the right direction would be appreciated! Thanks

Is this long query part of an AJAX request or does it happen during the processing of the initial page load? If its not part of an AJAX request then you have no gurantee that the UpdateProgress will even be rednered on the client before the task finishes.
FYI Page_LoadComplete is only relevant server-side and happends just before PreRender.

Trigger a body onload event.

Set the third parameter of the XMLHTTPRequest.open method to true.
Request.open("post", "http://" + location.host + /server-side-script.php + ", true);
This will make the XMLHTTPRequest asynchronous. You will then receive control immediately after the request is issued and be able to post your update in progress message.

If I understand your problem correctly, you don't need AJAX to do this, just some tricky JavaScript. Let's say you have a page, Page1.aspx, that takes much time to load (for example because of it's size). The trick is to create another page which then "calls" the desired page. So the crucial part of 'Loader.aspx':

:: Asking for replies to email instead of in the forum is generally considered a bit rude. If you are too lazy to go to the forum to look for replies, do you expect anyone to go through the trouble to write you a reply?
Also, your question is too vague for anyone to give you a definitive answer, much less any code. How you rank the search results based on user interrests depends on how you store the information about the user interrests. Do you have a database for this?

I have tags like below and I should have like that. Iframe is used to prevent Select elements to show through the div which is shown as a popup on mouseover. When I remove the IFrame tag, the Anchor tag is working and when the Iframe is there it is not working. Please help

Hello
I have a problem to write a cleintside uploadscript.
I have written a function to read local drives and files and uploaded it to my webserver.
If i go to the URL then I can see my local files and drives from the PC im on.
Now I need a uploadscript. Whenever I press a file it should automatically upload to another server.
what im looking for is an upload script in a webbased clientside language.
I hope someone can help me.

You would have to write an activeX dll to do this sort of thing and the client would have to download it and trust your ActiveX.
