Hi all,
I am a beginer in .net and i hav to implement a chat program [ web application, not standalone] and i have implemented public chat, but in private chat if a user send a mesage to another, i wanna pop up a window in the second user's computer [ like all other chat servers]. How can i invoke a remote object from server [ to pop up a window in client system from web server ]?
please advice.

Server send messages to client?In C/S system there maybe some solutions use socket.
But in web applications there is no way to achieve this.
For a substitute,you can use ajax to post some request periodly for check is there are new messages.If ajax request find new message,then get it and show it in a pop up window.

yes thats what i want, but i cannot inject a javasript to the page to opo up a window if there is a message, i get an exception [which is shown in an alert window ] and i searched for the solution and what i got is to avoid this response.write part from ajax related part. any way to pop up a window? it can be easly done if there is no ajax code.

Use window.setInterval to watch if there is a new message.I mean the ajax is you use a Msxml2.XmlHTTP ActiveX object to post some request and get response from it.All of these operations are in javascript.;P;P;P Don't use Ajax.dll or other dll please !

I have a GridView that contains a few Template Columns. In one of my Template Columns I have a Button and a TextBox. When the user Clicks the button, I want to place a value into the TextBox next to it. In order to do that, I figured I could get the RowIndex of the GridView row containing the clicked Button. Then I could find the particular TextBox Control in that row and fill that TextBox with the value I wish.
How can I get the RowIndex from a GridView when a user Clicks a Button within in….on the Server Side.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

Hi,
You can achieve this as following.
Create an event handler for a buttonclick event in the code behind.
protected void Bttn_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Button bttn = (Button)sender;
GridViewRow gr = (GridViewRow)(bttn.Parent.Parent);
Response.Write(gr.RowIndex);
}
and assign its name to the onClick event of teh button inside the TemplatedColumn in the gridview.
<asp:TemplateField>
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:Button ID="buttn" runat="server" Text="Click" OnClick="Bttn_Click"/>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
This way you can get the RowIndex of the GridRow Containting the button and then you can find the textbox from that row using FindControl Method.

I have file demo.exe, this file use to Export for me some format file. If Export file I have to command Run “run -> cmd and cd to the forder contain file demo.exe after that writer command Ex: demo -f myshp -h myserver -u apguser -P apgpassword mygisdb

But I want export with my Page (asp.net). How can I do it ???

But in web config file you are using some data for user name and password but what I need pass a database in which I stored usernames and passwords. I have no idea how can I check weather users and passwords matches with columns UserName and Password in my table. Table name is tbUsers.

Solution is for .net 2.0
Add these lines to the web.config

the authorization is used to prevent the anonymous user. in this example my default url is text2.aspx page
In login page write the following code in the button click event

ValidateUser() is user-defined function where you will write the code to check whether the password given my user matches with the password available in the database.
In other page's nothing is needing to write for validation

Login Page
Purpose Authenticates User credentials(username/Password) and grants or denies access to the system
Inputs IPaddress, Username, Password, Click on Login button
Processing Make sure User is from an authorized host(IP) address. Verify that User’s Username exist and that the password(encrypted before comparison) matches the encrypted password in database. Sets security cookie (encrypted Userid)on Successful login
output Random web page or URL if the IP address is invalid.After three failed attempts prompt User to notify Administrator. After Successful login , send User to the welcome page.
I have the following table in database which has user name and Password.

Use
System.Web.Security.FormsAuthentication.HashPasswordForStoringInConfigFile(strPassword,"md5"); or
System.Web.Security.FormsAuthentication.HashPasswordForStoringInConfigFile(strPassword,"sha1");
to encrypt the password.I don't know how to sets security cookie.

Has anyone had any trouble with concatenation with the new 2.0 framework. Here is the scenerio. We are migrating our site from 1.1 to 2.0 and I am working out some bugs and found this to really funny.
UnitStr += sdr("UnitID")
UnitStr is defined a string and sdr("UnitID") is pulled from the database as an integer. In the 1.1 framework(VS2003) it allows it to conncatenate but the 2.0(VS2005) it gives me a "input string is invalid", "Conversion from string "" to type 'Double' is not valid.". The funny thing it shows as an integer in the table and when you watch the variable.
Any one have any ideas?

I want to generate pdf from the htmlstream.I have a third party tool pdfconverter which takes the html stream and generate the pdf.I want to capture the current webpage request and take its html stream and pass it to the pdfconverter so that the page as it is can be converted to the pdf.I am using VS 2005.Any help is appreciated.
