Hey everyone,
I am just playing round with a Visual Basic.net application. I would like to be able to do the following two things and was wondering if you could provide some guidance:
1. Terminate A running Process.
I was wondering if you could help me by giving me examples of terminating a process. The process I want to terminate is explore.exe.
2. Sending an email
I would also like to send an email based on the input received. Do you have any resources on doing this?

Process:
The System.diagnostics.process class provides a framework for interacting with processes. To kill a process, use the following.
System.Diagnostics.Process.Kill("explore.exe")
Email:
To use email functions you will want to deal with the system.net. To send an email is quite simple.
Dim m As New MailMessage(From, To, Subject, Body)<br />
Dim a As New Attachment(a file to attach)<br />
Dim c As New SmtpClient<br />
m.Attachments.Add(a)<br />
c.Host = name of the server (your internet provider)'eg mail@bigpond.com<br />

I am using the same method .But i am getting the error
Failure sanding mail.
My machine is on network(I mean i can access the surf the internet on my machine).Still getting the fatal error.

I am just trying to get the process part to work and it seems to be giving all kinds of crazy errors. Would you mind posting a small example of it in use?

This will, but mind you it's a quick and dirty example:

It shouldn't take much code to scan a barcode. Today's barcode scanners do all the processing of the barcode and are simply an input device no different than a keyboard.
If you have your scanner hooked up, move focus to a text box on your form and scan a barcode. The textual representation of that barcode should appear in the textbox.

You don't. Under .NET 1.1, what you're looking for is under the System.Web.Mail[^] namespace. This will send messages using CDOSYS.

No. Do not base the design of the database on the design of the forms.
Most tables represent entities in the system (people, products, orders, customers, employees, etc.) Start with identifying the main entities. Then go around again and see what sort of relationship they have with each other. Perhaps you'll discover more entities you didn't think about before.
Take a look at sample databases (such as Northwind or AdventureWorks) to see how they fit together - It might give you some ideas.
However, if this is the first time you have tried to design a database, the best approach, in my opinion, is to get someone to mentor you through the process. Someone who has read and understood the requirements. Someone who can explain why certain design descisions were made and what the benefits and disadvantages were.

Yes. How you do depends on what IP address you want. You can get the local IP address used by the computer by examining the network card(s). This is a rather common question, you should be able to search for it in the forum.
If you are behind a firewall or router and want the external IP address, you have to send a request to a server outside the local network that returns the IP address to you.

What's the exact error message?
This will only work if your machine has an SMTP server installed on it AND is allowed to mail to another mail server on the Internet.

have a look at the Showdialog function of a Form and its Parameters......
If you are calling form2 from form1 call like this
Dim myFrm as frm1<br />
myFrm=New myFrm<br />
myFrm.Showdialog(Me)
it will make frm1 as Parent/Owner of frm2

You can't do it the way you decribed. Windows does not support MDIChild forms having MDIChild's themselves. A form can NOT be both an MDIParent and MDIChild at the same time.
