I would suggest better names for your columns:
ProjectName
ProjectManager
ProjectSize
DateStarted
DateDue
DateCompleted
Approval
You will also want an identity column to help with the table I would suggest ProjectId since I would guess the table should be called Project.

Thanks for your reply Ben, as regards the table that what i was looking for.
What i want to know is the code for adding a record for the table when i click on my button "add prject" for example. The code that will fill all the fields in the table in conjunction with the text boxes and drop downs etc that i mentioned in my first post.

I'm interested in exporting a dataset or a datagrid to excel. The hard part is formatting excel so that certain fields are colored or setting each row to have an alternating color (much like that of the datagrid itself). Can anyone assist me in better understanding how to format the excel file, mostly for color in ASP.Net for VB before it is sent to the client to download?
If anyone has some insigh I would greatly appreciate it!!!!!

I would NOT code it that way. Create a different stored procedures (or one with a tableName as a paramter). Use a switch statement to chose your stored procedure.
Dynamic SQL should only be done if absolutely necessary.
First of all, performance will be better if it stored procedures.
Secondly, stored procedures prevent SQL Injection.
Third, maintenance will be easier, especially if you change a table.
Fourth, if someone else sees your code, they won't think you are a complete beginner.

Maybe you can find a third party control with this functionality. Doing it yourself will be extremely difficult. You would need some serious javascript skills to write that. Even if you could write the javascript to "move" the columns you would need some AJAX to maintain the state, otherwise after a postback the grid would go back to its original state.

I don't think this is possible with the ASP.NET calendar control. You might be able to do it with the AjaxControlToolkit calendar extender.

Hello.
i have a DataSet that binds into gridview using the "databind()" method, the gridview is auto genereate colmus enabled, my question is:
the binded gridview looks awful, the headers are not equal, the cells aren't equals and the gridview itself is very very large. how can i control those things? espically the coulmns!

It realy depends, I you are using autogenerate columns then you have to do it dynamically.
Otherwise use Databound columns on design time and make it beautiful as you want, control widht, data formats like currency, date etc.

Of course. If you set the width of the columns they will wrap the text.
However if there is no space for example SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCIOUS would cause your column to expand.
If you would like to wrap a word in the header cell, use a <br/> tag.
For example, "Grid<br/>Header".

Looking for a way of setting the page to have a default button to trigger when enter is pressed on the keyboard. We are currently using a third party solution but would like to move away from this if it has been built in to .net 2?

Many ways to do it but the simple one is
Write the line in page load event
Button3.Focus();
if you want to make default focus to Button3

Thats no good. When the user selects a textbox to fill in some information the focus will change surely??

This will work when the form has a submit button, as in:
<input type="submit" value="jonsgay" />
Not 100% sure what happens when theres more than one submit button, I assume it wouldn't matter as they'd all submit the form. This is easier when using several forms, but obviously with ASP.NET there is (usually) only one. Whatever button you want 'pressed' has to render as a submit button, not just type="button".
Of course in order for this to happen the focus must be somewhere on the form (on any element, not necessarily an input). This shouldn't be too hard as the whole page is probably a form so as soon as the user clicks anywhere or an input is selected, you'll get the expected behaviour.

It's not really that simple is it you c**k jockey. Sometimes there are several submit buttons on a single page. One to submit the form details, one to clear the fields, another to search for my address using a postcode and the list goes on. FF and IE react differently to this and neither of them seem to do it in an expected and reliable way.
We have a third party control which has been able to do this but since moving to .Net 2 it has failed to work and there is no update for it???
