Most companies would use HTTPS to encrypt the link, then use normal ASP.NET or Java to do the rest. This allows clients to upload/download without using any additional software. With my company, the external partners are not very technically strong and often are not in control of what software can be run on their PCs - so a standard web connection is ideal.
I would recommend that the files are not physically stored on the web server - instead you would use .NET remoting to talk via a very strong firewall to a separate secured file-server.
Alternatively you could use PGP or GPG to encrypt files, then place the encrypted files on an external-facing ftp server. However this route would require your external partners to implement additional software.

Hi,
We are facing one issue in our web application.
Architecture is we have one end user site which fetches data from database and fetches images from share point site.
In end user site in one of our page we show grid which contain information along with the images related to that row. To show images we use one function
which request to share point site for images with Id/pwd for authentication.
This function is working properly.
In grid we are able to show all images properly. Currently we are showing 10 records per page means grid page size is 10.
Now the issue is :
On the same page there is a link which opens a popup, this popup shows all records in one grid without paging means all records on one page.
In this case we use same function to fetch images from share point and but this we are not able show all images properly some of the image are Red Cross
so we confirmed that whether images are present in share point site but the images are there in share point site.
above case we tested for 350 records also ... still only 190 to 180 images get download
while download images it shows status on status bar at bottom for e.g. (500 items remaining)
but in between suddenly it this status disappears from status bar and status also shows page complete download
I am not able to understand why images are not appearing and why they are appearing after right click and show image option.
Is there any issue related to memory ??
Is there any limit to show no. of images on one aspx page ??
Can any one help me in this issue …

This may be a bit of a shot in the dark, but it sounds to me like this could be a time-out issue. Some questions that you may wish to ask yourself: - Have you done any measurements around how long the popup takes to render with different amounts of records?
- How about the time it takes to retrive images from the SharePoint site?
- Are you retrieving each image individually or in a batch?
- Do you have any kind of cache strategy around the images, or are you asking SharePoint for them each time out?
One thing that you may wish to consider is using an HTTP Handler to request the images from SharePoint and cache them for future requests. For the extreme case, you may wish to consider having that handler preemptively request images from SharePoint and cache them before they are requested.
Of course, you would be trading higher memory usage for speed and would also have to make the decision as to how often you anticipate those images changing, and how close to real-time those images need to be returned.

I have to show the details of Reference Form in crystal report on the basis of refNo.
For that i have made a stored procedure.Which accomplish this task efficiently.
after this i hav done following code:----------

Hi all,
I have a problem that, I have one web application running in my local intranet. I have to provide security in such a way that the users to use their accounts to login in to the application. And each user should have different privileges to access different parts of the application and the resources. Is there any built-in way to achive it like if I have any tools or built-in mechanisms to do it, without using database verification.
Please tell me the tool name atleast or provide me a link to get this done. Thank you.

Hi all,
I have a concern in my application please suggest a solution accordingly!
1)I have a button 'break' in one of my aspx page.
2)To this button we added the script using the attribute.add
3)the script is that it would open a new window of defined size, in this window we are displaying a different aspx page
4)In this page we have a button 'transfer' so on click this small window should close and it should be redirected to a new page
5)For this too we have written script using document.form.action="page" and document.form.submit()
6)This works fine when my javascript function does not have any parameters but when passing parameters the functionality fails!!
Is that a problem with the javascript function

Where you will redirect after closing the window ? do u mean redirecting parent window ?

Thank u very much but sir i have two different tables. One Table may have less rows then the other. However One table primary key is included in the other.
Tables Structur
Cust_Order(Order_Id, cust_id, Date...)
Cust_Debit(Debit_No, Order_Id, ......)
Is that possible to Display boths Data on Same Datagrid. Cust_Debit may have 0 or less records then Cust_Order.

In the select query itself you can use joins,
If you dont want to miss records from Cust_Order
then use the following join
Select <column names>
From Cust_Order Left Outer Join
Cust_Debit On Cust_Order.Order_Id=Cust_Debit.Order_Id
If you dont want to miss records from Cust_Debit
then use the following join
Select <column names>
From Cust_Order Right Outer Join
Cust_Debit On Cust_Order.Order_Id=Cust_Debit.Order_Id
If you dont want to miss records from both Cust_Order and Cust_Debit
then use the following join
Select <column names>
From Cust_Order Full Outer Join
Cust_Debit On Cust_Order.Order_Id=Cust_Debit.Order_Id

I hope this is the appropriate forum...
I have a problem... I always used to be able to design my Crystal Reports within VB .NET 2003 linking them up to stored procedures I create beforehand. (Database = SQL2000)
Ever since I reformatted and reinstalled my PC I can ONLY access the tables within my database, and NOT the stored procedures I need to see when using Crystal Reports!
The user I am connecting with via the wizard definitely has all required privileges to the stored procedures, but they are not viewable and accessible any more and I CANNOT figure out why?
Has anyone ever had this problem? Maybe I am missing something basic, but it has never happened before and I have done this before?
Is there a requirement a specific requirement perhaps of the user that needs to have privileges to the stored procedure in order for the Crystal Report Wizard to have access to it perhaps?

I have a page where the user enters the information, and clicks on submit then the information is saved into the database. Second time, when the same user navigates to that page, the page picks up the data from database and be populated accordingly.
I have implemented ASP.Net Ajax: UpdatePanel into this page. First time (at the time of creation), it works perfectly. But when it comes second time (in edit mode), as the page is popupated as values from the database, it does not work properly.
For example:
- There is a RadioButtonList and TextBox with Submit Button on the page.
- TextBox is disabled by default.
- RadioButtonList has two options (Yes) and (No)
- Selecting (Yes) from RadioButtonList, TextBox is enabled and on selecting (No), TextBox is disabled.
- But RadioButtonList needs a postback and page flickers. So, I decided to implement Ajax:UpdatePanel into the page.
- After implementing UpdatePanel with UpdateMode=Conditional, when you select (Yes) or (No) on RadioButtonList, it only renders TextBox and page does not flicker, it means it works perfectly.
- But second time (in edit mode, when record already exists in database), in Page_Load, it fetches the record from the database and as per values populates the page. Like if RadioButtonList was Yes then it is selected as Yes and TextBox is populated with value. Now you try to select (No) from RadioButtonList, it will disable the TextBox and select again (Yes) option, -- it will not enable the TextBox to enter the value.--

Hi all, I writing my first web service but I getting an error when I try to connect to the database.
System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException : Server was unable to process request. --> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider:Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe)
What does that mean?
