I am Final Year Engineering student. I want to get information about connection of computers at different cites.
Actually if I want to computerize a department of any company which have its offices at several cities then what steps I should follow.
Means how I can connect that no of computers in appropriate manner to get desired output.
I want to make it just like railway reservation system through in which if I enter data at same time then database must be able to prioritize data in sequence to enter in database.
Which database & platform or language I should use to code this kind of project.
What hardware i need to do so.....

hi , can any one tell me about goood link to deal with firewall , antivirus and POP blockers..systems.... i m network eng.(primary stage) and facing lot of problems b'coz of these....they are for protection of comps bt some time create a lot of issues while installing small office or home networks...

That's a VERY vague question. What do you mean by "deal with firewall , antivirus and POP blockers..systems"?? Are you trying to setup a network??

Hi,
I am trying to install windows 2003 Evaluation version on my laptop (Acer). The text setup works ok. When the system reboots, I can see windows 2003 logo for a little amount of time and then the screen goes blank; very similar as if I have shutdown my computer.
I tried flashing the ROM, but no joy. I think it has something to do with display. Can anyone help me out in this ?
I know there are couple of techies all round here...can anyone please guide me.

Sounds like you installed the wrong video driver. Restart the computer and press F8 during the POST to get the boot menu. Pick the safe mode option from the menu to boot in VGA mode. From there you can install the correct driver.

there are lot of things which might be wrong.
give some more info like.
are you able to install the OS completely?
if yes then
are you able to boot into safe boot if you restart?
if yes then
also try to boot by attaching some other monitor(CRT) also.
might be display is on some other device.
if still is doesnot work contact your acer vendor.
this might be the known issue for gfx driver on your platform.

Yes, I am able to install the windows 2003 text mode setup smoothly. The setup then reboots the system to start the GUI setup. I can see the windows 2003 logo for a short while and then the screen goes blank. However, the power button light continues to glow that means the system is still ON, but nothing comes on screen!!!
I searched for this case but nothing seems to work. I come to know that windows 2003 requires console redirection monitor but I didn't find any such setting in BIOS of my laptop.
I am unable to start in safe mode as well. I haven't tried using another monitor as I don't have one and I can't afford to buy one for this cause.
I tried using recovery console but even that didn't solve the problem. It seems like I may not be able to install W2k3 on my laptop.
The configuration of my laptop is Pentium celeron 1.2 GHZ. 512 MB DDR2 RAM. LCD Monitor, 40 GB HDD, DVD recorder, etc.
Any help will be highly appreciated.

Hi Sameer,
When the system reboots after text setup( I think you are using unattended installation )and you see the windows progress bar at that time your graphics driver also is getting started so that OS can bring the system to High Res mode from VGA mode.
If there was some problem with sys BIOS or video bios than you wont see the post or windows progress bar. And graphics driver are part of your OS installation. I think there is something wrong with the Gfx driver configured for your gfx chipset. It may have some issues with ACER shipped platforms. It would be really difficult to point the problem without actually debugging  . I work on gfx drivers, i've seen and worked on similar issues but there can be 'n' reasons for this problem. I would suggest you not to tweek a lot with system and take help from your vendor of Acer because they will definitely help you here.

My DVD-Burner seems to have given up the ghost, but only partially.
I burnt an ISO of a movie to the disk, and the disk plays in an external DVD player but the drive will not see the disk it just burnt.
Anyone hear of this happening before. All the ones I had go in the past just went and would not read or write anything.
This is really odd.. The only thing I can think of is I am also using a new batch of blanks. Maybe the disks have something to do with it.
Do writers use different lasers for reading a writing?

I had an old Plextor CD-R drive that I bought when 4x was the norm for CD-R speeds. It performed flawlessly until I got some faster disks (16x I think). When I tried to burn to such a disc, the drive would act like everything was ok, but the resulting disc was a coaster and unusable. I still have no idea WTF the drive wouldn't handle faster media.

I bought a spindle of CDs once that had a warning in the package about using older CDRW drives and that they may need firmware upgrades to use the faster blanks.
These DVDs I am using do not have any speeds listed on them... Maybe I will try burning at a lower speed and see if that helps.

Sound like cheap disks - I had that problem once and reducing the speed sorted it.

I don't know about different lasers but definiely different power levels which could change the laser's behaviour.

For testing a NMS (network management system) , we need to create virtual networks of different types having different devices such as WinXp machines, printers, scanners etc.
There are softwares available to do this, but we want to develop our own.
Any hints on what needs to be done ?? 
i mean how can i create virtual systems by writing some code ?? which dlls , which APIs etc ??
If you know it , Please help !!!

Hi All,
Hoping someone with some RFID experience can help me gauge an understanding of it.
Do the readers get the Co-Ords of the tag, or is the location based solely on which reader has picked up the tags signal?
I know some companies say they use it for stock control, so just wanted to get an understanding of how that worked.

Most RFID tags have no locator capabilities. The location is determined by knowing where the reader is, not the tag. Since the range of an RFID tag transmitter is very short (usually within 10 feet), the tags location is the location of the reader antenna.
The tag passes through a field generated by the reader. This generates a small current in the tag which powers up and transmits its ID. The reader picks up that signal and reads the tag ID.
That's the basics of how it works anyway.

Kinda makes me think of a huge robot, whose eyes begin to glow as it slowly gets on its feet....
Or a plant after an accident of some kind.
You know, with beeping, lights flashing about, strange smells of partly burned electronics...

Hello all,
As soon as I was able to get it into my computer I bought a Matrox card with dual head in order to increase the productivity.
Now I have a new computer and also I got a new matrox card with dual head. That computer came with an ATI card inside that now is not being used.
One coworker has a Pentium 4 with the 915G chipset that has an integrated graphics card. I was thinking on adding that other graphics card there in order to be able to use them both.
Do you think that this is possible? which things should I consider?
PS: I would like to be able to have two separate monitors working with the same computer, like the effect I get with the Matrox Millenium P650 that I have in my computer.
