combobox problem - combo resets to 0th pos

Hi, I have a few comboboxes on a form. Let's name them LHS (left hand side) and RHS. Whenever I click LHS, I want RHS to reset to it's 0th element.

However, when I click an element in LHS, LHS resets to it's 0th element but will still show the proper items in RHS even though LHS is reset to it's 0th element. There are no pointers to objects being used.

What could be a culprit of this problem? Some windows message? I checked the message maps in the class wizard and combo messages are cleared (except CBN_SELCHANGE, of course).

Well, I think I figured out the problem.

A) The original person who wrote the code wrote a lot of garbage.

B) There were 3 or 4 (I'm writing from home, now, so I don't remember the exact particulars) functions named the same in 3 or 4 different classes (which is fine, in and of itself); however, the coder used references to the view and app classes to access these functions using ALL public variables for any variable that was needed. I mean, what ever happened to keeping private data private?

C) Anyway, there was another function, being called by my OnSelComboChange event, that got called a couple of times via the original coder. Its decl: InitializeItems(int); That's right - Initialize. Called multiple times throughout the class. Nice, huh? Initialize a variable ONCE, people. Call an Initialize function ONCE, people! Also, this function performed multiple, unrelated processes which should not have been lumped together.

After breaking that function up and strategically placing the disected pieces where there should have been, everything started working fine.

ActiveX Problem

Hi Everyone

Well, I have a silly problem. I made an ActiveX for Windows CE 4.0 using VS2005 and I can call methods and set/get properties but the code related with that functions never was executed.

At the begining I can't call methods because I had problems with IObjectSafety interface.

I tried everything and now I am pretty frustated. The problem I think is weird maybe I am doing something wrong.

Hello everyone,

I am learning how to develop offline Web Services provided by Windows Mobile platform. I have some complaints here. At first, I admit that I am not an expert of this topic. Could anyone help to answer please?

1. Lacking of basic information of how to setup, do I need to setup anything beyond .Net Compact Framework 2.0 at client side? Do I need to setup some server? I can not believe such information can not be found from Microsoft web site.

2. Lacking of basic samples. Are there any available ones officially provided by Microsoft?

Maybe such information exists, but hard to find.

Hi!

Does anybody know if there is any AT-something modem command
to monitor keys, pressed on the cell phone?

I would like to control PowerPoint from my Samsung A930 cell
phone via Bluetooth connection. As Verizon disables in their
phones every possible feature you can think of, there is no
simple way to do this like mobile Java application etc.

But, as I don't really need any user interaction, monitoring
pressed keys and echoing them on the HyperTerminal,connected
to the pohone's modem, would be just fine.

Hovewer, after couple hours spent googling, I still don't know
whether there is such command at all...

Installing a Pocket PC application

Hello,

VS 2005.

I have developed an Pocket PC for a Windows Mobile 5.0.

I have created the setup using the following website.

This created a successful setup and the installed on the pocket PC without any errors.

However, when I click on the applicaton on the Pocket PC, it doesn't launch the applcation. It does nothing.

When I deploy on the emulator it works fine, but not on the actual pocket PC hardware.

Can anyone tell me if i have done something wrong, or could it be the Pocket PC that could have the problem?

Is there a better way to create a setup program for a pocket PC for VS 2005?

Hi,
if you didnot have any breakthrough so far, i will suggest followings.
1) if your application is complex , i.e requires remote resources like remote db connection, then make a very simple one to start with and try followings.
2) deploy using XCopy method instead of making setup file to see if it makes a difference.
3) make sure you have selected right processor type in visual studio tools section.
4) try to debug-run the application on device rather than in emulator, using ActiveSynch and usb cable. (device instead of emulator in debug config)
5) if u cant manage 4, make sure all required components, if any (SqlCE,.Net Framework etc) are present on device compatible to the version your app supports.

Hello everyone,

I am developing a Windows Mobile application, using C/C++. It is an agent using HTTP(S) to communicate with server. And now I am using Cradle to test the application and it works fine.

Now I want to test it using GPRS connection. I am wondering whether I need any change in my code? Environment settings? Do I need to change any settings in order to have better performance?

In GPRS, is it the same as connection using Cradle to communicate with HTTP server?

Hi George ,

I think in device settings u have to make one connection setting entry for the same connection that u r using . For eg if u r using WAP then make one connection in setting->GPRS. nd in advance setting choose that connection for WAP.

Thanks Ankur! I am a little confused. I have a simple HTTP based agent, which is working fine on Windows Mobile when I place it on Cradle (by borrowing host machine's IP address) to communicate with my home-made server.

Now, I need to test whether the application could work standalone (without host machine, Active Sync, etc.) by using GPRS to connect to server. I am not using Web browser on my PDA, so is WAP needed? (I only send HTTP package to HTTP server and wait for response.)

Could you indicate in my situation, whether I need to configure anything as you mentioned above, like WAP? (correct me if I am wrong, I think if we do not use Web Browser on mobile PDA, there is no need to configure WAP, even if my program is using HTTP based communication.)

Any comments are welcome.

Hi George,

I wrote WAP for an example . My motive is to tell u that for making a GPRS u have to make proper setting for that . Actually if u go in device setting->connection u will find that u have 4 option for a connection Like (Work,internet,wapnetwork and secure wap network.)
Now what u need to do is make one new gprs connection. For making that connection follow the steps

(1)Go in Setting->connection->gprs
(2)Click Add in menu
(3)Now chose any name for connection like myconn
(4)In connectto chose the connection that u r using in ur application(I mean work, internet or whatever u r using)for Example Work
(5)Give the other setting like APN and proxy (whtever required)
(6)Press Done and come out
(7)Now in main connection screen click on the menu
->advance
(8).Now if u have set the new connection for work then in combo box for work chose ur connection i.e myconn
(9)click on done

Now check ur application is working fine or not

The only way I'm aware of is to use SystemParametersInfo with the SPI_GETOEMINFO flag. The code we're using:

Hello,

I am populating at combo box from a dataset. But when I run the program I find I get system.data.datarowview being displayed in the combo box. What should be displayed is the values in the table. i.e. R4484, G5474.

I am using pocket PC 5.0. I have tried this code in a simple window form, and it works fine, but not in a pocket Pc application. That is why i posted here. Thought maybe there was something wrong with this type of control being used in pocket pc application.
