i want to set focus on a row in gridview by typing on a column.
this should happen in a way that i move the focus on a column of the gridview and just type in a word and the focus should automatically be moved to the cell with the matching word.and yes by typing in a word doesn't mean i have to provide a textbox somewhere on the grid.all this essentially has to be for a windows forms.can anyone suggest me a solution for this

hi there i think theres is an API in the Phone you can use it to do this where there is an API for Bluetooth and API for SMS (this is For smartphone and pocket PC and Windows CE ) so i think you can go to MSDN and find what you want...............

I need to code a server, which looks up for SMS and “download” them from the mobile phone.
AND it doesn’t matter, what mobile phone it is. Even a Motorola or something.

Hi all,
I have created a Setup Deployment project and i am successfully able to create a installer which install the application and also creates a shortcut to the app in the Start->Programs Menu.
Now i want to add an option to UnInstall the application in the Program's Menu. Similar to what we have for Real Player / WinAmp
How do i do that?

I remember creating .bat file with the following command : Msiexec /x <product key> and then added the bat file to the setup project.Hope that works for you...

try to add the bat file in the application folder of your project and then try to create the Uninstall short cut under the Start Menu Folder.

The installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package is exists and that you can access it,or contact the application vendor to verify that it is a valid Windows Installer Package.
What should i do now?

I get it to compile, but it give me an error when it gets here.
The error is:
An unhandled exception of type 'System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException' occurred in mscorlib.dll
RTD method of WorksheetFunction class failed.

Application doesn't have a method called WorksheetFunction. You're confusing your program's Application object with an external application.

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum but here goes. I'm writing software for a device that runs Windows CE 4.2 and .NET CF 1.0
When I use a PictureBox on my form the program throws InvalidProgramException when I try to run it on the device. It works fine on the PC. Moreover, I can put the PictureBox on the form but not assign an image to it and it works fine. But if I assign an image to the PictureBox at design time and I compile, the executable throws that exception on the device.
Any ideas what would cause this and how to fix it?

Hi,
How to Merge to objects of PrintDocument class and give single output to Print Preview or Print commands. I have Grid and Chart controls separatly. Each has their own Preview option and i need to select separately for Grid and Chart for printing. Now, i want to merge this two into single output.

why exactly do we need data types;
we talk about strictly and loosely typed languages;
languages like php doesn't need your variables to be declared of a certain type;
why actually should we care about data type definition;
what are the concerns that we should keep in mind???

The reason that we have to bother about data types, is that the data that we handle always has a data type, and the data type determines what we can do with the data.
If you don't keep track of the data types, you will run into problems. A very common problem is when people try to compare a string with a number, which does not produce any useful result at all.
The advantage of strictly typed languages is that they produce much more efficient code, and you can make the code much more stable. In a loosely typed language the produced code has to keep track of the type of the data in order to know what to do with the data, and has to check the data type at runtime. In a strictly typed language the compiler already knows the type of the data at compile time, which means that it doesn't have to add code for checking the data types at runtime, and also that it can optimise the code for the specific data types.
Further more, a strictly typed language can tell you already at compile time if you are trying to do operations on data that doesn't make sense, while a loosely typed language can't do that until the code is actually executed.

I think types are powerfull. I can imagine you ask this question if you're used to writing PHP, i wrote PHP and Perl and asked the same question for myself years ago. At first i thought types were annoying having to cast types over and over again. I accepted the concept of types and neatly switched the 'Option Strict' option in my VB Developement environment on and learned how to deal with types. Now writing C# there's no way around them and I think that's a good thing!
For example let's use an integer, you want a user to enter an integer somewhere in your application. You place a textbox on your (web)form and wait for the user to confirm his input. Obviously you check the user's input for example using a regular expression, or you just try to parse the input to an integer using int.TryParse (one of the quickest methods). Once your test succeeds you can actually parse the string type to an integer (TryParse already does that for you) which fills your integer variable with a certain value. There's no way the integer's value changes without having a numeric value. In PHP you could give your variable the value of the user's input, but that doesn't guarantee that value is actually a numeric value (integer). Types DO guarantee the values of those types. Same for all diffrent kinds of types. There's no way a certain type bacomes a diffrent type without actually casting them to a diffrent type. This prevents loads of errors and a hell of a debug job once an error occures somewhere in your app.

I am also having some exp. in PHP and in .NET more than 3.5 Yrs. So comparing both I can say that defining data types makes remarkable difference in performance. If you do not have datatypes, then every variable will occupy the same memory space in spite of its actual size. For example, if you have boolean variable as result which will be either true or false, storing it as object or var (in terms of VB) wil occupy the same space that will be occupied by a double or string. So you will always appreciate to use 1 byte instead of using 16 bytes.
The most important function of CLR is to manage memory in the most optimized way. That's the way .NET optimizes applications and provides memory level security by introducing AppDomain concept.
Also type casting is another overhead when you try to compare of assign variables in non typed langugaes.
