Hi,
Is it possible to cancel Form Colosing in the Form Closing Event ?
I have background worker in my form and when user try to close a form where a background worker is still busy, I want to let the user know that,
"A background process is still busy, Try closing Later" -- And then Return the method without closing the form.

The onclose event has a CancelEventArgs prameter e.
set e.Cancel to true.

As far I know, these onClose, onLoad type events are protected members and I will have to override this methods right ? Is not it possible simply using e.Cancel within FormClosing event handler ?

Yes it is! It's even the standard practice.
Yet better make it the other way around. You shouldn't make the user wait for the thread. The thread should wait the user. Make your background worker a Background thread that will b terminated once the application is closed so that the use won't get frustrated waiting for something they don't even see or know when will it finish.

What happens when I execute Application.Exit() if a background worker is still busy in that application ? I assume that, all threads and background workers are immediately stopped and the application isexited. Is not that right ?
The same question is for Application's main parent form closing. If the user simply click the cross button of top right corner of the Main Parent Window to close, will the threads and background workers are terminated immediately or they keep on running invisible ?

You'd be surprised if I tell you that i've never used those BackgroundWorkers!! I always use good old fashioned multithreading. I even don't know why they made this clas?!!
Anyway, if a thread is made Foreground then it will keep running invisible and your applicatoin won't really exit. You can check that out using the task manager. But if you make that thread background by setting Thread.IsBackground = true, then it will close once all foreground threads are close and the process won't wait for that thread to finish. I don't know about BackgroundWorker class if it's really background, but it would take a small test to find out -I'm currently too lazy to lookup MSDN;P-

Hi,
Can I have your recommendations please on a good but inexpensive obfuscator to use for my soon to be released killer app When I say good - is a more thorough than b. Is the extra cost of c worth it when a will deter most ammature hackers etc.
I've looked into the archives and read a lot of comments on the subject but no real suggestions or comments based on personal experience/usage seem to have been made.

There is much hype about them but there is only one thing a killer app can really protect against and that is killer data structures and algorithms. Everything else can usually be derived from the app itself.
Sure a non-obfuscated app can be easily decompiled and repackaged but, last time I checked, that was a felony. Bad things happen to bad people.
My advice: If you have a killer app build a killer business model to surround it and you will be rich.
(Of course I will probably get low votes on this so let me say this: some obfuscators are cheap and it is ok to obfuscate. Just don't worry about it too much)

Hi there,
I have one main form with a treeview on the left side. Now, if I choose one entry in the treeview, a second form will be shown on the right side. These second form has special coordinates an should be nailed on the main form. These form2 may not move if I klick on it and try to move it. But if the main form is moving the second form should be moving with the main form. Like you nailed it on the main form.
Is there any possibility? I dont´t find anything in msdn.

You could make it a fixed frame window (BorderStyle) and eliminate the minimize/maximize elements...but not moving the child window may be difficult. Usually, for graphics and such, the work is all done relative to the coordinates of the window within the main form. (I'm assuming you have this form as an MDIChild of the main form)
Another issue with your approach is running the application on different monitors with different resolutions. Seeing a small window in a large resolution desktop can be a UI usability issue.
There are methods within the client that lets you translate screen coordinates to relative coordinates within your form. This allows the window to be sizable and easily deal with resizing.
Hopes this is a little help.

I'm looking at providing a UI element that would present a unit of work that can be stretched over a span of time. My intent is to use this as a graphical way for the business to indicate work windows...each window representing a number of units of work that must be completed...then using the resulting window to compute the staff members needed to complete the work.
Has anyone seen this type of graphical element where I can deploy an elastic control over a grid?
(we are also under government control, so I cannot spend much if any money on this)
Has anyone seen one like this?

Anyone can help me? I have to write a software(COMO-an c# user interface)that allow the user to call another software(example:Dasylab-which is available in market now) to run, collect data and send the data back to COMO for analysis.Below are my questions:
1)what is the name of process 'calling other software' called in C#?is it API?
2)I cant find any reference about this process,is there any books/article/website/information related that you can recommend?
3)Do i need to get a protocol from the Dasylab developer?(as i know, they only provide DDE code for VB)

OK...I cannot resist the first opening... You have write this code:

Now the serious answer. First you need to talk to the company to see if they have an API for communicating with their software. Let them know you're doing your stuff in C# and ask if they have a .NET wrapper available.
Once you have the info from the company, and you spend half an hour cursing their backward deployment, you need to address things pretty much yourself.
Their interface is probably exposing a COM interface so you need to get the interface extracted from the software. Unfortunately it has been a long time since I had to think about that. So do Google on .NET COM Interop and you should find plenty of articles on
a) bringing the com component into your code
b) gaining access in your code
c) making the calls into the cmoponent.
If you paid alot for the software, you should be able to apply pressure to the vendor to help you with this.

I had a library (dll) that I had originally written in C# - 2003, used to create and manage SqlDataAdapters, as well as automatically set up the Insert, Update and Delete SqlCommand object on the data adapter.
I converted it to 2005, and it compiles, but when I try to execute the .Update method of the dataadapter, I get the following exception:

Anyone knows, how to handle uninstall event,
and cancel this.
I'd like to add custom action in my deploy project,
that ask user for a password, if the password is true then it will uninstall
otherwise, cancel thie uninstall application...
