Each of those can have many difference markets for use. There are alot of programs that still use VC++ and C# is going strong now too. I do not know much about the embedded VC++ market, but you should be able to find work with any of those languages. Remember there was a ton of work for people that knew that old language COBOL in 1999 and 2000. If VC++ and C# had no demand in the future what would you think would have a better chance? The languages that you use now should be fine.

Y u are worried about the future of language? remember 1 thing that the computer will be there till thje end of the world and as per human nature he will keep growing as per time so if u r working vth such languages it may u vll go 4 others in the future. For now i can say that VC++ and c# has very good market. So don't worry

I am a little worried about that comment, they said the same about million other products that have now fallen by the wayside!! Just because the computer may be around for another 10 years or so. It does not necessarily mean the demand for programmers will be high.
I think, that if you're wondering about the demand for the future, is it is best to keep to a platform neutral language, C++ , but also it entirely depends what you end up working as. Computer landguages and use tend to be product/market/platform specific.
I for one am impressed by the recent increase in Javascript that is encroaching in the market, where interpretted languages is enjoying a slight surge again!!

Hi guys,
I am thinking of taking MCTS (all of the three Web,Windows and Distributed flavours).
Now, is it worth investing time/money in MCSD.NET as well as MCTS or just do MCTS?

MCSD.NET is for .NET 1.1 while the MCTS using .NET 2.0. Do you think that it is better for your career to have 1.1 or 2.0 or both?
For me, I am heading to use .NET 2.0 so that MCTS route is what I am going. Of course on the way I did finish up my MCSD.NET, because I has started that before .NET 2.0 was out.

Hello,
I have an application in Visual C++ and it was written using VS .NET 2003.
This application is using classes from MFC.
I have the following questions:
1. I want to compile and run this application using Visual C 2005 Express Edition. It is possible?
Because from what I've read I've seen that Express Edition doesn't have support
for MFC and can be used only for applications written for framework 2.0
I've tried to install Microsoft Platform SDK, but I didn't obtained any results.
It seems that this SDK brings some MFC libraries but nothing that I need.
In conclusion I want to know for sure if it's possible to use Express Edition for the development of application above?
2. I've tried to compile the code with Visual C 2005 Professional Edition but
I had some errors. This wouldn't be a problem if don't have to work in same time
with some guys which are using VS 2003.
I have to work in paralel at least for a period on the same sources with different people
some in VS 2005 and others in 2003.
There is a setting or some way to force VS 2005 compiler to run as a VS 2003 compiler?

No. MFC is not included in the Express Editions...

That would depend entirely upon the problem.
There's no easy answer. The best you can do is know both systems and understand when you should use either of them. That's what your interviewer was trying to find out, if you knew enough about both.

If this is for a client, you need to ask them what their requirements are. SRS is specific for a project and I don't know of any one generic SRS. Every SRS I've done has required some form of requirements gathering...

The exams for VC6 were discontinued as of June 30, 2004. You might be able to still find some of the books if you want to study them, but there is no test from Microsoft that will give you a certification with them anymore. The newest .NET 2.0 exams do allow you to use C++, but that would be Managed C++.

Thanks for your reply.And one more doubt also Im newer vc++ so i think to write certification exam.Its ok.But i searched about this in net it shows two exams as vc++ desktop applications(70-016)and vc++ Distributed applications(70-015).Whats the differnce between this two?
Is the book is good for my coding practices?Can i buy that and study for my career?

Those exams are retired and cannot be taken anymore. Studying from the certification books and practicing with the compiler would help you in your career because you are getting better (thru the practicing). As I said before, the newest .NET exams also allow you to take it using C++, but you have to know .NET for those.
With you being new to C++ I would not concentrate on getting a certification. You can get the books to help you, but the books are focused on the exams, not on how to use the tools and language the best. I am sure that you should be able to find some generic VC++ or C++ books to study from. Also taking a look at the articles here on CodeProject can help. Ask programming questions in the programming forums here. But remember that it takes alot of practice to get good at things and programming is the same. I would not waste the money on exams yet. Get familar with every first.

i need your views on the above question.
what do u think is better.
i am talking from the perspective of getting stronger in the technology.
Plus point for product companies is that u get to work in a perticular technology for long time, (without the company asking u to switch technologies, for any reason)
U dont have to wait / worry about project getting over and the anxiety of waiting for a new project.
Downside is that , in product company, usually they dont upgrade to a new technology immediately. since their product life cycle will be a long one , with maintenance spanning over several years. they will continue to use the same version of s/w. (for ex, Dot net Framework 1.1)
Problem with services is that, ur nt sure of working in same tech. if they dont get any new projects in that tech, of if they run out of any good projects, u may b forced to do any mundane job, or even testing.
Any suggestions in this regd are welcome.
I am in a fix now (im in services company and they hav asked me to switch technologies, or swtich to testing). i know this happens in most services companies.
Another point is that, product cos mostly pay less than their services counterparts.
I am not able to decide whether to go for a product company ( if have an offer from them too but with a lower pay).

after college i went to work at a big services company thinking about the various fields i would get to shift to within the company if i don't like a particular field. i did get offers a small product development companies but i turned them down because i thought they were small.
now i am repenting my decision.
tell you what prst123, in my opinion its down to just 1 thing, are you tech savy and want to code/design for as long as you wish to?? if yes, go for product.
If you prefer travelling for on-site work,flying around,seeing the world and making money, and climbing up the management asap go for a services company.
work at a services company would be very boring for someone who prefers to code. they ask you to learn boring middleware, kick you around depending on the market demands, at times whatever you learnt in a month or two for a project would never ever be put to use by you after that project... and if you survive they will make you a project manager. the only challenge at a services company once you have settled in is completing a project for a client in an incredibly short period of time.
i can't tell you anything about product development because i never gotta go there yet. But i am trying my best to get out of services and go back home to coding 
btw about the pay at product companies, maybe it seems less at the beginning, but if you can prove yourself to be a really good developer you would get a really good salary and all the fame and recognition you can ask for. And if you decide to start your own company years down the lane and come up with a kickass product, you would be rolling in cash or rolling in fame on the internet or maybe both.

MCAD Exam is based on which version of .NET,ie,
Microsoft Visual Studio 2003 or Microsoft Visual Studio 2005.
