Hi all,
I have to modify a VB6 program and I want to access to a const declared in a DLL from the app. I've tried to declare it as public inside the library but the application reports an error cause it doesn't recognize the constant. How can I do that?

OK, it's been 6 years since I've used VB6, so I'm pretty much guessing here.
If a const is declared in a .DLL, just using the name of that constant in your code won't work. You can use it in certain cases, but it depends on how and where the constant is declared in the .DLL. If it's inside a class, then you can probably use it like this:
x = classname.constantname
Without seeing how the constant is declared and what you did to reference this DLL, it's pretty much impossible to give you an accurate answer.

hi
i ve designed an application in which whenever i enter an amount in a textbox,then that amount will be displaced in the word format of the currency in another textbox.
Eg. if i enter 12225 then it will display as " twelve thousand and two hundred twenty five only"
please help me in this regard.

All you have to do is Google for "convert number to words[^]" and you'll come up with all kinds of examples on how to do it.

Please i want your help with a code which i can use to store the system clock in a variable which i can use to add a 30 mints to it. as i want to my application to be shutdown after 30 mints when i click Start button but if the user click End button in another form then the timing should stop , and using the timer control was not helpful becuase it dose not accept any compare condition and just close the application.
so i thought to ignore the timer control and use a code which i can store the system clock in a variable and insert that varialbe in a loop and inside the loop i compare the variable with specific value, if it is the desired value then close the application else go again and read the system clock , DO u think its good thinking. if u think its applicale , please help me a code to store the system clock in a variable.

Hi
You have got it wrong! Declare a Public variable something like
Public MyHalfAnHour as Integer
If you have set the timer control as 1 minute. Keep incrementing the above variable in the timer control event and when the incremented value is 30, it means that 30 hour has lapsed and close the application else leave the application as it is.
2. When the user clicks the end button on the second form initialize the variable.

I have set white color as the transparent key of my form,
It show properly.
After I chnaged the opacity of the form,
The white color is shown, how can I make the form with this two effect?
That is, opacity = 0.5 and the white color is transparent?

IIRC, you can have one OR the other, but not both at the same time. If you set an Alpha for the form, the Transparency Key is ignored. At least on Windows 2000 it is. I can't remember if thats true on XP.

I am using an Outlook Inbox as a makeshift queue for the processing of email attachments. Everything works fine except currently I am indexing the session variable to set my folderlist to the precise folder the emails I'm looking to process arrive in.
In other words, I'm doing the following:
xNamespace = xOutlookApp.GetNamespace("MAPI")
xNamespace.Logon()
FolderList = xOutlookApp.Session.GetDefaultFolder(Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.OlDefaultFolders.olFolderInbox)
FolderList = xOutlookApp.Session.Folders.Item(4).Folders.Item(5)
Although this certainly works on my machine I need to install the app I've written on a server so it can run 24/7. I'm guessing I need to search the Session.Folders for the folder "Inbox" but I don't know how to do that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I deleted an old, unused column from a table in SQL Server that my app points to. I then removed any reference to that column in my app (variables, controls, etc.) I deleted and recreated the TableAdapter and DataTable for that SQL table in the DataSet designer so it would reflect the lack of that column. I even ran a search in my code for the column name. I run my app, and it works (i.e. I can pull a record from that DataTable) and all seems alright until I call Me.WorkRequestTableAdapter.Update(Record) (which is line 99 in the trace below). It then throws this exception:

I have no idea where this is coming from. I have looked in the designer code for the form and the dataset. I still can't find where this exception is coming from?
I'm still quite new to vb.net, so I'm sorry if this is super easy, or if I broke a major best practice.

The SQL for the Update in that TableAdapter is still referring to the deleted column.

Found it! Yup, I'm a rookie. I had spaced that I referenced the column in a Trigger I had setup in SQL! It had nothing to do with my VB.

Use it in one of your validation routines, for example, KeyPress, TextChanged, Validating events (I use a combination of all three events).
Put this at the top of your form class, before any procedures:
Private myErrorProvider As New ErrorProvider
Then, in your validation routine, if validation fails, set the error provider:
myErrorProvider.SetError(MyFormField, "Message to display")
To reset the error provider if validation is successful:
myErrorProvider.SetError(MyFormField, "")
