Hi all, I'm currently developing a pocket pc application using Visual Studio 2005.
The application is designed to store data on a windows Mobile 5.0 device using SQL Server Mobile 2005 as the datastore.
My previous experience is with VB6 and Microsoft access so the theory behind the data connection is new to me and i'm pretty much learning as i go.
So far i can connect to a SQL Mobile database and display the data in a datagrid (very basic stuff i know) but i have a few questions re the differences between SQL Data connections & Access data connections that i hope someone can answer for me.
Can i connect directly to an SQL Database to edit data like in access. (if i understand correctly sql makes a temp copy of a table and then inserts the changes to the actual table when finished )?
What is the difference detween a dataadapter (and or datareader) and a vb6 Recordset??
is there a way i can use a text box and datagrid as a search tool based on the Textbox keypress event - similar to the following code in vb6
data1.databasename = dbPath
strSQL = "SELECT * FROM Table WHERE data = '" & TextBox.text & "'"
data1.recordsource = strSQL
Any help you could give me would be much appreciated and i'm sure these are probably novice questions but everybody has to start somewhere .

For this type of behavior your gonna want to use a DataSet. You'll have to create the tables and relationships within the DataSet to reflect your database structure. You then call Fill() on your adapter to populate it. Then just modify the DataSet, all changes are in memory only. Then call Update() on the adapter that's mapped to it to push those changes to your database.
But this isn't really advised. On the desktop its somewhat of a performance hog, as it simulates an in memory database with all the fat and trimmings. You would be better using a custom object collection and populating that with a DataReader. Then as you make changes, use UPDATAE SQL statements to push those changes to the database. One advantage if your using the SqlCeDataReader is that you can have multiple readers open, so nesting isn't an issue when populating through multiple readers.

A dataadapter adapts your DataSet to your DataBase. A datareader is just that, it reads data in a forward only pass that's fairly optimized. Its slim vs the fat of the DataSet/Adapter combo. You execute the sql, and read the values while iterating through the rows. The Recordset is a mapping to a table, view, or stored proc. Similar to the DataSet/Adapter combo, with the option of Reader like behavior, if your using custom SQL.

I haven't had the need for this yet. But there are many things you can do with the databinding mechanisms in the controls and with DataSets & IList.
Off the top of my head(you'd have to search msdn to verify) I think you can put a filtered view on your DataSet to get a custom DataView that's bound to the textbox control for a parameter, and just bind the DataGrid to this view from the DataSet.

I hope someone can help me !
I'm trying to programatically make a connection to Bluetooth headset
from WM5 device.
Using the GU interface provided on the device, I can
a. discover the headset device, and authenicate
b. Select the headset service, however I'm not certain what is actually
done programatically when perform this selection in the GUI
c. Redirect the audio of the WM5 device to the headset.using the
following code:
HANDLE h = CreateFile(L"BAG0:",0,0,NULL,OPEN_EXISTING,0,NULL);
BOOL status = DeviceIoControl(h,IOCTL_AG_OPEN_AUDIO,NULL,0,NULL,0,NULL,NULL);

This all works fine !
Now If I try to achieve allow of the above without using the GUI of the device:
The following code allows me to cnnect to a headset and authenicate
if (ERROR_SUCCESS == BthCreateACLConnection (&b, &h)) {
iRes = BthAuthenticate (&b);
BthCloseConnection (h);
I was then expecting to use the the audio gateway to redirect
audio to the headset. But I can't see how this can work as at this
point I've only connected to the bluetooth device and not the headset
service, so the AG wouldn't know which device to connect to !
If I add code to connect to the headset service as shown below :
SOCKET s = socket (AF_BTH, SOCK_STREAM, BTHPROTO_RFCOMM);
SOCKADDR_BTH sab;
memset (&sab, 0, sizeof(sab));
sab.addressFamily = AF_BTH;
sab.serviceClassId = HeadsetServiceClass_UUID;

then althought the above code connects to the headset, the connection is
terminated by the headset about ten seconds after its made.
If I use the same code to connect to a another service the connection
is not terminated.
Additionally if I try to get the AG to redirect to the Headset whilst I'm connected
to it, I can open the device BAG0:, but the IOCTL's return error 5, unable to access
device.
One thing I have noticed is that the registry doesn't contain any setting under :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway
But this doesn't seem to stop my using the same code to redirect the audio
if the GUI is used to establish the connection to the headset
Can you give me some pointers as I'm running out of ideas !?!

Hello Everyone,
I'm trying to do something super simple. Just add a bunch of controls to a panel on a form. It's odd, it shows the first control, part of the second control, and doesn't show anything after that. Here is my code:

I'm a novice C++ programmer and want to lear how to create simple applications and/or games for the Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket PC operating system. I can't seem to find any proper tutorial or set of sample code on the internet that actually steps one through the process of creating an application. Does anyone know where I can find such information?
Right now, Microsoft's website only has a list of all the functions in the Windows Mobile 2003 library, but doesn't show sample code with them in use!
If someone could please tell me where I could find a tutorial, step by step instructions, or a manual of some kind, I was greatly appreciate it!

Also, I'm currently sticking to Windows Mobile 2003 because I only haev Visual C++ .NET 2003. If anyone has any information on Windows Mobile 5.0, that would be great as well as I may move to Windows Mobile 5.0 in the near future.

Currently I'm able to create a combox box in ListView in Windows Form (PC application) with mouse up event in ListView, by using C#.
But is it possible to do the samething for Pocket PC Application? I'm unable to find the mouse up event in ListView. I've do lot of searching in ineternet but stilll unable to find a related article.

I have a problem related to Pocket PC Deveploment.
Problem: I have Two Form based classes Form1 and Form2 .
In Form1 i have a menu options as menuitem that popup other menu items . where as in the second form i have only one item in the menu.
when i click the the menu option of Form1 it will popup the menuitem and then leave it as it is( open state). Now when the Form2 is appeared over the Form1 it also have the same menu option of the Form1.
Can any body help me out that No menuOption of Form1 will appear in the Form2.
Kindly send me the working code.

i m using VC# using smartphone 2003.one image is dispalyed as a back ground image and another image(Stretchimage) is displayed as a superimposed on the background Image. the stretch image should be displayed in run time only.
direct path of the image should not be given. we declare in one variable(in that variable we have to give the path) and we call that variable whereever we want.
