Hi, I have some problem with assign a logon script in windows xp. Please read read my below activities and suggest me if you found any error:
1. My computer name is Net1 . I log on as a local administrator account.
2. I create a user account name User1 with blank password.
3. Create a folder name Welcome and create some file in it. Then make a Make a network share with "Welcome " as a share name and define permission for Everyone group in Share tab to Full control and Everyone group in security tab to read , read and execute and list folder content .
4. Log off Administrator account and logon with User1 account.
5. Log off User1 account and logon as Administrator account again. (I do this because i want user1 has it own profile).
6. In Administrative mode, I create a folder name Logon Script in the root drive C: and share it and put LS as a share name. I define the permission for both Share tab and security tab as step 3.
7. I create a batch file name MappedNetworkDrive.bat and the content of the file is mapped the network drive for welcome folder. The content of the file is:
net use y: \\net1\welcome
8. I assign the logon script to User1 in computer management and put the below path in Logon script text box: LS\MappedNetworkDrive.bat
9. I try to log off administrator account and log on as User1 account but i couldn't see the mapped network drive appear in windows explorer. I try to log off and logon many time but the network drive didn't map for me. But when I still in User1 mode and double click on the batch file directly, the drive is mapped successful but I don't want to to do. I want to mapped it automatically.
Does anyone see any problem with my above activities?

Try changing the share with the batch file to netlogon and change the user properties script options to MappedNetworkDrive.bat and see what happens. orherwise recate a new entery in the registery and get that to call the batch file under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Hi all:
I know for MSI installation package you can choose to install in default mode(Without UI)
MsiSetInternalUI(INSTALLUILEVEL_NONE, NULL);
and also register a callback
MsiSetExternalUI (MSIProgressHandler, /*all the installation msg you interested in*/...
to get MSI installation progress message with some info.
But now I have an exe installation package, and I've tried this package with '/q' command line, It did installed in background without any UI, but how can I get installation progress info like I did in MSI in this scenario?

That will depend very much on whether the supplied EXE was coded to allow you to do so. It probably wasn't, so you'll be out of luck.

Hi, I found this configuration tool online. I currently use it, it creates infrastructure reports pretty quickly, and I didn't know if anyone else has used it. I have the free version right now, and am wondering whether or not I should upgrade.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Tool can be found at:

Hi,
I am using Windows 2000 on my machine and I change the user type of administrator to Power Users. And then I restarted the System. But now when I am trying to open the Users and Passwords option in the control panel.
It is giving error :
You must be a member of Administrators group on this computer to open the Users and Passwords control panel. You are logged in as IT3\Administrator, which is not a member of the Administrators group.
And I have no other user account. Please help me in this issue.

Try to use Bart PE[^] to create a windows live CD and boot from this CDROM. Then try to logon as administrator account (may be the account from the CDROM) and try to upgrade your computer account an administrator group member ship.

I'm a little surprised it let you do that. Unfortunately, there's no way back so far as I'm aware - you'll have to reinstall.

Hi, the below is the script to get Computer information:
Set objComputer = CreateObject("Shell.LocalMachine")<br />
<br />
Wscript.Echo "Computer name: " & objComputer.MachineName<br />
Wscript.Echo "Shutdown allowed: " & objComputer.IsShutdownAllowed<br />
Wscript.Echo "Friendly UI enabled: " & objComputer.IsFriendlyUIEnabled<br />
Wscript.Echo "Guest access mode: " & objComputer.IsGuestAccessMode<br />
Wscript.Echo "Guest account enabled: " & _<br />
objComputer.IsGuestEnabled(0)<br />
Wscript.Echo "Multiple users enabled: " & _<br />
objComputer.IsMultipleUsersEnabled<br />
Wscript.Echo "Offline files enabled: " & _<br />
objComputer.IsOfflineFilesEnabled<br />
Wscript.Echo "Remote connections enabled: " & _<br />
objComputer.IsRemoteConnectionsEnabled<br />
Wscript.Echo "Undock enabled: " & objComputer.IsUndockEnabled
Let look at at this: objComputer.IsRemoteConnectionsEnabled I want to know that why IsRemoteConnectionsEnabled property is the member of objComputer object? Are there any document that list all properties of an object and how to use it? Because I want to write my own script without copy and customize the script from the other people. I want to create something by myself about scripting. Any idea?

I'm thinking very seriously about my next computer being an apple computer, so I'm wandering..
Is there going to be a section in the codeproject for mac coding?
Here is my sugestion: http://mac.codeproject.com

Have you ever looked at Objective-C???
And as for COCOA...
OK so they have an Intel in now, but I ask you... is that really enough???
Just write it in Java or use wxWidgets under Visual Studio and recompile it under that crap that comes with the Mac, what is it? X-Studio or something???
Better still Bootcamp your Mac into XP!
Besides, I think your forum would be even quieter than the ATL/WTL/STL template library one!

It's XCode. I'm guessing that you are not a very big fan of apple..!
Bootcamp.. The point is for the program to run on the mac!
As for the forum, you don't know until you try
Better, add a mac forum and a linux forum too. Why stick in one OS while there are so many, and better ones by the way..

All OSes have their strengths and weaknesses. I don't think one is better than another.

are you serious ?
codeproject is dedicated for microsoft technologies

|

Too bad..

No, it is not too bad. Mac also has its forum[^] too.

...but it sucks;P
The codeproject site succeeds due to the size of the PC user base and its longevity.
My point was not to bash macs but that even template library programming can attract regular posts for PC programming. I doubt that a mac offshoot would be able to muster even that level of interest!
3million plus users are what imbue this site with almost most real-time repsponse and their years of input are what provides its knowledge base. How will you recreate this with a mac-codeproject?
I wonder what the critical mass of users is to make such site fit for purpose?
And how would you recruit them?
So, imho a macish version would fail due to the lack of useful input
|
|
|
|
|
Are you sure that the mac community is that small? If you're sure ok. But maybe you'll be surprised.
I think that if you don't try you'll never know.. And it's not like you have to build up a new site. The code is there, you only have to add an extra topic in the codeproject.
If it's not a success just delete it. But what if..? It would be interesting

Check this article[^] and find the reason why windows need to reboot. Then return back to check what you have design whether some part of its function make windows need to reboot or not.
