hi all ,
I have a dialog box application.I want to remove the cancel button at the top right of a dialog box.Can anyone pls. tell me how to do it.

Have you considered removing the WS_SYSMENU style?

do in the resource editor, select your dialog box, once it's openned, select the "Cancel" button and press the delete key on your keyboard.

The "cancel" button he is referring to is the "X" in the top-right corner of the dialog.

Do the following:
Open the dialog box resource from the resource window in the workspace pane. Right click once you are on the dialog box and open properties. On the 'sytles' tab uncheck the system menu. That should do the trick.

Do u mean the CANCEL button which comes by default when u start a new project?
Or some other cancel button, write it in clear

Right now when I have a dialog box open I can only work in the one box and can't click on anything outside it (i.e. clicking on the toolbar to open another dialog box or getting the about box to come up isn't working...)
I want to be able to click on the toolbar, menu, open more than 1 dialog box, etc.
I guess I'm looking to make these dialog boxes work like child forms in an MDI MFC App. where no matter how many child windows you have open you can still click on the toolbar, menu, etc.
Is that possible?

It sounds like you are treating your dialogs as modal dialogs (that is, you are calling DoModal at some point). To accomplish what you want, you need to follow the non-modal creation method (using CDialog::Create). Check MSDN for more details and information.

Yes, that was exactly what I was doing.
Ok Cool. I figured it had something to do with the DoModal function that I was messing up on.

hi all,
in my application i wrote the code to get the data from users Documents and settings\user1\Application data folder.
in one system i am unable to read the data neither it is giving error
please help me to solve this problem

1st: do you have "C:\\Documents and Settings\\user1\\Application Data" in your code? (i.e. have double slashes instead of C:\)
2nd: does the other system you're trying to run the code in have the folders set up the way you want it...(i.e. C:\Documents and Settings\user1\Application Data)

What code do you have in place to read from this folder?

First check if you have rights to peep into others documents folders. If you have local admin rights, you should be able to do that.

Dear Gurus,
You may not be aware that I have lost my job as our company has given us lay off.
I am really expecting a job in MFC, VC++.
I have given 2-3 technical interviews but it has made clear that interviews need special attention and preparation ,
I would be highly thankful , if someone provides me the compilation of interview questions on VC++, MFC, C++, ATL COM, Threading. If with answers then it will be a faster preparation for me. (Sorry being lazy here, but situation is a bit tedious with me right now).

it is useless to learn answers by heart, because if the guy ask you something, then you answer but you don't understand what it's been said.
secondly, too much questions can be asked on each topic to be able to provide such a questions compilation.
the only advice i can give you is training yourself to C/C++/MFC, to that you really understand what you do with it, and then, can answer questions on it.

*rant* First of all, there is one thing that is driving me nuts about this forum lately: VC++ is not a different language than C++. It is simply a compiler (more specifically, it is an IDE, but I digress). If you want to know how to do something (e.g. open a file and read its contents), it is the same in standard C++ as it is in Visual C++ (unless you elect to use the Win32 API or MFC to do it for you ... but those are libraries for doing things, not IDE's or compilers) */rant*
Now, if you really want to brush up on your skills, make a trip to Barnes and Noble. Check out books like Effective C++, More Effective C++, Effective STL, Exceptional C++, Programming Windows (Petzold's older version ... new version uses C#), Programming Windows with MFC. I have yet to find a really good book on ATL/COM, but several books cover decent areas of those topics. As for threading, check out the O'Reilly books on the subject.

MSDN has everything pathak. And there are lots FAQs in CP itself. Micheal Dunn and Alok has done it greatly. Search for them atleast. Don't be lazy expecting me to give the link. Giving links are only for the newbies

Dear List
I have a problem while i'm drawing lines into my Childview.
Some background: i'm Meassuring some events and the result is plotted to the view. Fore that i use:

I Use this method quiet offten (recalled after 25 milliseconds). So fine.
Now moving the mouse over the toolbar is fine until the tool tip (or any tool tip belonging to the mainframe) is shown. It seems like the tooltip is shown between MoveTo and LineTo.
So it might the easiest for me ether to deactivate tooltips at all - i don't know how to do this - or to have another possibility to draw a line.
Please any suggestions might help

PS Oh i forget to say not all Window machines behave the same way - i mean on some machines this happens on others not.

maybe you could create a bitmap for your line drawing and then BLT the bitmap to the cDC?

I am working on implementing a callback function in this manner :

and then I make a call as

The problem is that the callback function is never called.
Somethings seem HARD to do, until we know how to do them.
