If you already have a library with a C interface, I would say PInvoke may be easier most of the time (depending on how complex the C interface is). In the case I described, it was worth learning MC++ even just for that one project. The learning curve is not that steep if you already know C++ and .NET.

Mostly for my book + for some R&D work though. Once my book's done with, I may take up some consulting/contract work for my evenings/weekends.
We are also considering using some C++/CLI at work.

Are you satisfied with CLI performance?

I tried it a few times, it sure looks cool. I think it might be even usefull for those cases that I need unmanaged code. But I like C# more..

Which he responded to by stating that he isn't using it. The response is still valid. 
And I use C++ at home on my personal projects. And C# at work. Haven't had the need to engage, although I might since they cleaned up the syntax.

I don't really "prefer" one or another, but have written a lot of code in MC++, and it really pissed me off when they broke the syntax. People who were complaining about MC++ were really only looking for an excuse to switch to C# - none of them are using C++/CLI.
Anyway, these days it is just native C++ (mostly on Linux) for me.
