I would like to put a HyperText field in my table that presents the "Name" field from my SQL database as its text but links to http://www.SomePage.aspx?id=[ID Field from selected row].
How would i achive this ?

template the column and use an asp:HyperLink and set its NavigateUrl and Text properties in your markup. or through the bindings dialog of the control.

But how do I go about getting the NavigateUrl to = the ID field of that row?.
i.e how do i format the contents of it so it doesnt just read it as an unformatted part of the URL?
What im looking for is the text I should use in the NavigateURL field/source to set each rows hyperlinkg field to the output ID retrived from from the database...
If you catch my drift ?

There are a couple of properties of the HyperLinkField class which you may want to check out: DataTextField, DataTextFormatString, DataNavigateUrlFields and DataNavigateUrlFormatString.

i'm following these steps

handle the names. In the "Web Site Identification" section there is an
"Advanced" button, that will open a window where you can add identities
for the site. The "Host Header Name" is where you put the subdomain
names.

I would say that most people here do know how to create .net web apps, I'd highly recommend an ASP.net book like ASP.NET 2.0 Step By Step by George Shepherd (isbn: 0-7356-2201-9). Also with a domain X.Y.com X is a subdomain of Y they aren't called dynamic urls, dymanic would infer that there is so sort of fluidity or creation at run-time, neither of which is the case. However, first you need a domain name (youaremighty.com) and a host. Your host will have some sort of control panel for you to configure some things and one of those options is probably creating subdomains, your host probably has a limit you make though.

Hello there
I'm building an application that will allow users to upload files to an online file manager of sorts. I've chosen to store the files in a database and so far I'm satisfied with the solution. However I've encountered a problem with the file upload. I'm using the built in file upload in asp.net 2.0.
I would like to warn the user that a file with that name already exists and prompt a popup with an Ok(to overwrite) and Cancel(abort upload). This is the classic client/server side problem though I guess, but even if I've looked around for a solution for a while I have not found any. And I'm sure I'm not the first with this problem.
Any suggestions/links on how to solve this?

The way i achieve this is to use my asp:message box (a custom control) and return a warning to the user, because the control is server based i can act on the events at the server and not have to rely on javascript, the other way is just to rename the file (and, if you choose) maintain a mapping in your database. the mapping is extra overhead and not really required unless you must have the filename they uploaded.

This custom control, is it open source and avaliable for others? Due to space issue I would like to overwrite files and not store double(or more) copies of each file.

it is still in beta, but will be available soon for a small cost.
the other option you have is to do a quick if(File.Exists()) { } and if true then display a button on the page that confirms the overwrite of the file. This way on the first postback you could upload the file and name it like ~filename.ext. If the answer is no then either force them to click a No button and delete the temp file or just delete it on next file upload and check. the latter option would require maintaining a list of files to be deleted, else you could have concurrency problems if this is a multi user application.

you can use GetWebResourceUrl() and embedd the css in the assembly
then you create a HttpLink and set its href attribute to the GetWebResourceUrl(typeof(this), "path_to_resource.css")

Also, any style sheets in the .aspx file that calls in the user control get applied to it as well (but you won't see it in the designer obviously).

Hi I have a problem with Opera Browser Detection using ASP.NET
Here is the code:

bobj.IsMobileDevice is True
and bobj.InputType = "telephoneKeypad"
If I change the Opera Browser identification to IE or Mozilla everything is allright:
bobj.IsMobileDevice is False
and bobj.InputType = "keyboard"
I'm using Opera 9, I test this on Opera 8.5 and it works fine, but the new version is identify as mobile device in ASP.NET
Where is the problem?
I asked this question in Opera forum and only got this answer:
"With asp.net of course, since that version isn't detecting Opera 9 properly"

Which version of the ASP.NET are you using? If it's 1.x, you can use the browserCaps element in the Web.config file to detect the Opera 9. In case of the 2.0, you can use the browser file instead.

You cannot directly set the Session data with javascript, instead you may consider using AJAX and you can easily find lots of examples out there.

You can store in Cookie instead of session. You can set cookie value from javascript and also from asp.net code.

The best bet is to store it in a HiddenField control, then document.getElementById to retrieve it on the client side

Hi all
i am maintaining a project a have a form addrecord.aspx use FormView control having different dropdownlist with different datasource. formview control use1 sqldatasource1 to bind using visual tool.if the database table have a single or more record then formviw appear in addnew and edit mode.if there is not record in database table the formview not appear. give a msg no record found. i want a interface to insert the first record if the database table has is empty. all the code used in configuration mode(html) so i am not getting when i check
