Hi,
I am a bit confused on how VC++ linker is resolving the function signatures. I have a windows Dll and a corresponding header file and I wanted to build a lib file out of it. So I dumped the exported methods from the DLL using Dumpbin utility. I then wrote a .def file for the exported methods and generated a .lib file from the DLL file.
Everthing was fine however I got confused regarding one thing. It is that the dumpbin produced the exported methods list with no underscore in the method name. E.g. Foo
When I ran the dumpbin utility on the generated lib file, I got underscore in method signature E.g. _Foo, so I assume that the methods must have been exported using __cdecl calling convention. When I look the method signature in the header file the prototype contains the __stdcall in the method prototype like
void LIBAPI Foo(); and LIBAPI is defined as
#if defined _WIN32
#define LIBAPI WINAPI
#endif
I was able to successfully create the .exe file using the generated lib file. Now my query is how is the linker resolving the differences in the method signatures?
Or is it the case that I am missing something basic here?
Can someone please clarify what is happening here.

In "xyntservice.asp" sample, it can not receive messages from other exe.
I need to handle some messages from other exe.

As far as I know, xyntservice can execute Win32 GUI apps (who has got a message pump). So it wouldn't be a problem for you.
Check out the ini-file sample (that starts up Notepad). If Notepad can be started under xyntservice, so will your app. And if Notepad will receive Windows messages, so will your app.

Nope. A service can of course not send messages to a terminated app.

I have never used IImage myself but from reading MSDN I would think the easiest way would be to use IImage::GetImageInfo() to get the dimensions of the image, and then use IImage::Draw to draw the image onto an appropriately sized memory bitmap.

Hey folks
I'm writing .html files to disk, and when I run my application normally, I get several garbage characters.
When I step thru the debugger and look at the functions CreateFile and WriteFile and what I'm passing them, the program not passes appropriate values, but actuall produces files free of any garbage.
I'm really concerned that if stepping thru the debugger doesn't find these errors, I'll never be able to find them by hand.
Any ideas on making the debugger comply with the real world (turning off stuf.. etc)?

Your problem might be the result of the different new() functionality. In debug mode, the allocated buffer is filled with nulls.
In release mode, it isn't.
Else, try a Rebuild All in debug mode.

(Actually, it seems that the new operator in debug mode fills the buffer with 0xCD value, at least in VS 2003).

In order to load different HTML page from disk, I think you can try the Navigate member, something like this:
Navigate("file://c:\\MyFile.html");
If your HTML page is in resources, you can try LoadFromResource function.

Hi,
I am new to vc++. I have one source code which i have to analize.
But while executing in VS2005 i am getting the following errors.
error BK1506 : cannot open file '.\debug\Application.sbr': No such file or directory BSCMAKE [/color]
error PRJ0019: A tool returned an error code from "Performing Custom Build Step" Shareaza
If any one knows the reasons and solutions please help me.
It is very urgent for me. please help.

This issue can be caused by a problem with your Application.sbr file. This file is used to generate "browse information file", which is useful for easier navigation through your code.
In MSDN, there are several possible causes (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/vccore/html/BK1506.asp[^]) and you can investigate them.
However, the compilation, debugging and running of your application can be done without browse information file. Go to the properties of your project, General --> Build Browser Information and select No. Then rebuild using Rebuild Solution command.
On the other side, if you work with a solution consisting of several projects, be sure that such option is the same (Yes or No) for all of the projects.

Not very sure if this is the right discussion branch for this, but could not find anything else more matching.
Q:
I use DeviceIOControl to pass data to driver from a VC++ application. Everything works fine. Th eisuue is, if the usb device is hanging, not replying, my PC hangs. I need some timeout in deviceiocontrol, not sure of how to do that.
To make it more clear, pc sends data, if device does not repond till some time, it should return with fail code..
please help

You could start a separate thread, which calls DeviceIOControl and signals when the DeviceIOControl has returned.
In the main thread (or in another thread), wait for the signal from the DeviceIOControl-thread.
If the signal from the DeviceIOControl-thread doesn't happen in a given time frame, consider it to be a timeout and handle it in the main thread.
