Yes that would be handy it always seemed like it was to0 many steps to search the forums. It would be nice to have just one unified search for articles and/or forums

I think that in addition to tracking the number of times an article is viewed, it would be great to track the number of times that the demo/source-code files associated with an article are downloaded. It would be another helpful indicator for determining how popular/useful an article is, because most people only download those files if they really find the article interesting or helpful. Since most people don't vote on articles they read, even if they download the files and find them useful, this feature would provide a quick way to gauge how popular an article really is upon first viewing.
Am I alone in finding this idea to be a potentially good one?

Josh,
Actually CP does restrict downloads (non-HTML content) via a validated CP logon. Hence, having a counter for a particular article and its associated downloads to keep incrementing it, should be technically feasible though.
But there are certain other non-technical parameters that may need attention:
(*) Cp Downloads and Article Content/Description goes hand in hand. With download controls, would'nt there be a shift in focus like download-only servers?
(*) I also admit that this would be an added tool other than the votes (as you have indicated) to measure the success and reach of the article.

Definitely! I just came to this forum to suggest exactly this feature... I had a feeling someone would have requested it before. Hopefully if more people vote your suggestion up it will get put on the CP TODO shortlist
Getting to see the number of downloads of your code would give you a more accurate indication of roughly how many might be using it, whereas many people probably skim articles and move on if it's not what they're looking for. Plus search engine bots might be pushing up the page-hit value.

Membership status calculated as follows:
1-4 articles posted = Bronze. 5-14 articles = Silver. 15-24 articles = Gold. 25+ articles = Platinum. Each 500 messages posted adds one level, and if a user has posted a message then each year of membership adds 1 level. Bonus levels not valid for Gold members. Bronze is awarded at the beginning of the first 500 messages posted instead of the end.

Hi all
I think that be cool if you add the popularity rate in each article in the category listing (for example C| Articles[^]) because some times an article with 1 vote appears at top and somethings not is so good as the others.
The same thing happend in the last best picks area, is a good idea that an article qualify for the Best Pick after 5 or 8 votes.

Maybe if they changed it up like google does.
If they listed most popular first an article creating your tic tac toe game would never show.
Maybe if they showed the top 5 and randomly showed the rest. To be fair for the writers

In the message view on any forum, when I scroll down to get a message subject in the middle of the screen, then click on it to open it, it jumps to the top of my screen (e.g. by clicking on a subject, the post is made the first displayed on the screen). This is most annoying. Is this a normal behaviour ?

The messages all have URLs that end in an anchor name (#xx123456xx) and browsers will scroll that anchor to the top of the view window. (Well, FF and IE do, haven't tried any others)
