Hi.
I have a few files (NASM assembly code) that are part of a MSVC project. I have custom build commands that compile the files and that works fine. But I would like to only build these files if a certain preprocessor definition exists. (I already only use the NASM code if "USE_NASM" is defined, so I would only like to build the files in that case.)
Is this possible? Does anyone know how it can be done? Or will I have to create a new project configuration that does not include the custom build commands for those files?
(I'm using MSVC6.)

how to delete the trayicon started by another app.
I only have the Trayicon App's HWND, and i do not know its uid and callback function ect...

I know the MSN plug-in can hide the trayicon and the windows of the MSN.
It really convenience that officer can use this to hide the MSN when the manager coming when they're using MSN to contact with friends.(because the manager thought MSN was a waste of working time)
I thought [ShellRegisterCallbacks] could do this.
Using this callback function can forward the [Shell_NotifyIcon] function to a custom shell.
But this way can only work when the MSN runs after the app, I don't know how to do this when the MSN has already run.

Has anyone ever delved into this?
I have found plenty code on the net but none actually removes the space where the start button was, ie: resize the task buttons area to take up this space. (StartKiller does it properly, somehow)

This clearly doesn't work!

After you hide the button why don't you try moving other windows to the left.

I have a requirement, as our application is running user
must not be able to close / minimize our application and also Alt+Tab key combinations must also be disabled.
i have tried this using Win32 app.
i have used AfxRegisterWndClass();
and CreateEX(); in CFrameWnd consructor.
this works fine . but my problem is how to do this in
SDI i am able disable close window button by registring the class in PreCreateWindow();
but where i must call CreateEx() with my customized call.since WM_CREATE is called for frame pls help me i am confused by calling sequence

Hi All -
In a nut shell, I'm having the hardest time coding this project I have.
Basically the project is take a data file filled with infix arithmetic expressions, parse them out one line at a time, evalute each expression by converting it to postfix, then print the infix arithmetic expression in infix form. I must use classes to do this. my solution has 3 classes, one for the tokenizer, one for the nodes, and one for the expression tree.
Has anyone had a similar project? Care to share your code, I have so many errors, its not even worth me posting my code. I'm really looking for guidance on this coding wise. Any past projects like this would be a great start for me to kinda mould from.

I have an application that spawns a process (CreateProcess(...)). The only debug output from TRACE comes from the active project in my workspace (the application). How can I debug the child process from the Visual Studio? MSDN gives instructions on how to attach to an external process, blah, blah, blah, but that must be for a new version (.NET?) because all the menu options it talks about don't exist for my version of Studio. I'm trying to figure out why the thread I've created in the child isn't handling messages correctly from my named pipe. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm writing an app for a system that is configured by the IT department to turn on the screen saver after 15 minutes of inactivity, and requires a password when the system is re-activated. I tried programatically moving the mouse 100 pixels and then immediately back to it's original position, but that didn't work. I've also tried broadcasting the SC_HOTKEY message. This kind of worked, but when I closed the app, it crashed.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Just to clarify, are you trying to inhibit the screen saver from going off? I'm suspecting yes is the answer, which prompts the next question, once the screen saver has gone off, what's that do to your app such that it stops doing what it's supposed to be doing?

The problem is that the user has to log back on to the system after the screen saver comes on. I want to prevent the screensaver from coming on in the first place. I can't just turn the screensaver off because that's not permitted under our security policies. The app that will be doing this is in a hospital Emergency Room, and they don't want the screen to go into screensaver mode at all.Instead of fighting with the IT idiots, I just want to simulate activity that doesn't otherwise inhibit actual use of the program.

Oooooooops~~ "this is in a hospital Emergency Room" ??! have you thought about that your application may fail for whatever reason? Then, who will response for that if it happens?
If I were you, I would like to write a formal report to your boss to talk about this issue instead of taking some technical way to hide it.
What do you think about it?

I'd be interested to hear if Michael's suggestion does the trick. The MSDN documentation specifically states that the function will not prevent the screen saver from executing, but we all now how that can be wrong. The docs also state that the call should be used by multimedia players when playing long videos and I have often wondered how my video recording software accomplished just that. This likely is the reason.

Nope, didn't work, and I even tried using the WM_POWERMESSAGE handler in WndProc too. Nothing seems to be able to keep this from happening. I've kinda given up - gotta move on.

I happend to face the same problem. This solution seems to work, but you should keep in mind that it does nothing more but resetting some timers. So you need to create a timer event and invoke the function when the timer expires.
Thanks for this idea however!
