SQL Server 2005 has a tool called the SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration tool. You'll find it under Start/Programs/SQL Server 2005/Configuration Tools. Start that, then click on Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections. In the left side navigation pane, click on Remote Connections. I think you can figure it out from there.
As for the connection string, a basic string using standard security would look something like:
Dim connStr As String = "Data Source=serverName;Initial Catalog=databaseName;User Id=userId;Password=password"

No you don't have to. The Arrays can be re-dimenssioned unless you define the dim statement inside the block if statement

I have 6 textboxes (max 5 chars)..when user fill the first textbox with the 5 chars, i want the write_cursor goes to next box..is there someone to tell me the way? is there a property for this or i must make a new sub for this? Thanx..

That "write_cursor" as you call it is actually referred to as the Insertion Point, or I-beam.
All you have to do is handle the KeyPress event of the first 5 textboxes and check the length of the text in that TextBox. If it's 5 characters, call the Focus method of the next TextBox in line.

hi guys,
i have problem with the insert row! It adds new "insert" rows in the end of dataset! Why?
I change to no auto_numbered the primary key..and the problem continues.
Any ideas?

Because that's the only place to put them. You don't actually insert between two records, you insert them into the dataset. The database engine doesn't care in what order the records are in the table itself.
If you care about what order the records appear in the table, then you're either not using correct to do what you want, or you're using the wrong object to store the table. Which ever is up to you. You haven't supplied enouogh information about your project to point you in any useful direction.

i having a background and small image as a icon, when system moving the small icon infront the background it look like a square image moving where my image have a character and the background was white. I have alreayd use background color as transparent in the image but it still like that...?
any one know how to solve it?

Transparency is quite bit annoying but that is how I solved the problem.
First, the image which will use transprancey should be saved with alpha transparency. And then use panel and place the background picture as a panel's bakground picture. And then place the image inside the panel, it won't look square any more and transparenct will take place...
Do not forget when save the image do not use index transparency but alpha channel transparency.

r u using photoshop to edit ur image?
cause i cant found any in ACD editor and flash...
anyway i only see the selection on background content as transparent only...
wher eu set the alpha thing?

have u try not to use the panel? i dont think it work for me after i put it in the panel casue i cant call the image to move even cant display it also

It doesn't matter, you will able to move your image inside the panel. The image format should be gif to support transparency otherwise you should go with index transparency which brings some other issues to calculate in the code.

I am learning to create a dating website. i am using sql server 2000 and visual studio.net 1.1
I want to create a robust website so that system dont crash or anything. i dont know how to create a good database design. every time i create a tables i happen to modify it i dont know.
is there any free source code for complete dating site.
i dont want to purchase or anything coz i am in learning stage. i actually found one but it is not created in Visual studio framework so it doesnt have aspx, aspx.vb and resx file and it uses mysql. is there anyway i can just seperate the coding into aspx, aspx.vb and resx.
please help thanks

I seriously doubt you'll find the source for any dating website. You'd be better off looking for other projects and applying what you learn from those projects to your own.

Hi,
I am using vb.net 2003 in XP. I 've developed a project in vb.net. I would like to provide an evaluation version for the same. The software's evaluation period is set as 30 days. I did this in the following way :

Above code works well and checks for the evaluation period.
But if the user keeps on using the date between the trial period version (i.e., any date within the 30 days), he can still use the software for any number of days.
Can any one please advice me how to prevent this. Is there any other way for this.

There is no reall easy way in preventing this.
you can do a number of things:
1) Every time user opens program write current datetime to some store. And then check the store if the previous date is before the current date, if not the user changed the system date and you can block the program. But this still leaves space for screwing around.
2) Have some window service running that checks all the time the date and checks if the date is set back. It's a big deal, and who wants to add a windows service for this.
3) Have ur program connnect to some timeserver on the internet. Very secure but maybe the user doesn't have internet or blocks ur program from accessing the internet.
These are just some ideas. But there is no 100% good method.

It's good that you're finding examples. It sounds like all you need is something to covert C# code to VB.NET. Try this[^]. All you have to is paste the C# code snippet, or whatever into the top box, click Generate, and the VB.NET code will appear in the bottom box.

What are the functions of PersistenceMode and DesignerSerializationVisibility?
I have checked the msdn but the one line definition is not very helpful. THey are given below.
PersistenceMode: Specifies how an ASP.NET server control property or event is persisted declaratively in an .aspx or .ascx file.
DesignerSerializationVisibility: Specifies the visibility a property has to the design-time serializer.
So in simpler terms, what do they do?
