While reading through msdn and debugging concept code I've confirmed that events don't synchronize automatically across threads, but according to the msdn guidelines at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms228966.aspx apparently they do:
"Additionally, the event-based pattern is less efficient than the IAsyncResult pattern because it creates more objects, especially EventArgs[^], and because it synchronizes across threads."
I would like to know in what way does the event-based pattern synchronize itself across threads because as far as I've understood the event is always raised in the context of the thread that called it. Is this refering to the method employed by the PostOperationCompleted of AsyncOperation ?

They're using the term 'pattern' to mean a recognised structure for class design. See this article[^] for their overview of the "Event-based Asynchronous Pattern".
Basically what they're saying is that the class implementer should consider, for lengthy operations, making available a methodAsync routine which begins an asynchronous operation, and a methodCompleted event to signal that the asynchronous operation completed. The class implementer is responsible for getting the event to fire on the thread that started the operation. You'd normally do this using Control.Invoke or similar.
None of this is a requirement, but it is a design guideline that the framework generally follows and that users of your classes may come to expect.

Is there any way to edit a text file without using an intermediate temporary file.
The text file has one entry in each line, and if there are 90 entries i.e. 90 lines, and I need to edit some lines in between (i.e say fro eg the 4th and the 30th entried) without creating an intermediate file. I tried using the FileStream class, it writes only in bytes, and I am stuck as to how to increase the seek pointer linewise.
My code goes like this
System.Text.ASCIIEncoding encoding=new System.Text.ASCIIEncoding();
Byte[] b = encoding.GetBytes("\r\n New Entry \r\n");
fs.Seek(1,SeekOrigin.Current); // fs is the FileStream
fs.Write(b,0,c.Length);
The problem here is in the Seek function, as I need to increment the seek pointer to point to the start of the next line that I am supposed to edit. The above solution is affecting two lines. The required line gets edited but the entry in the next line is replaced by a blank line. And if the '\r\n' is not given then the text is appended to the same line.
Any solutions, Please HELP!!!!!!!!!

Why don't you work in the storage? Read the file you want to change, change it and then write it back?

Hi,
The problem is that i'm doing this for a Pocket PC with a memory capacity of 64 MB and the file can be quite large. Reading all of the data into storage can sloq down the processing speed considerably. This is quite a dilemma i'm in . Help me out,Guys.

The compiler regognises that the e and f strings are identical, and uses the same value for them. As e and f references the same string, the objects g and h will also reference the same string.
When you compare two object references, they will only be considered equal if they reference the same object.

Hello,
I have 2 ComboBoxes on a form which should display the same list of strings.
If I use the same datasource objects ComboBox1 changes with ComboBox2 independend of the DataBinding object
if I make two different datasources I have the problem that only one is updated with the object that they represent...
What is the best way to solve that issue?
Til now I have tested this:

CurrencyManager mng = (CurrencyManager)this.BindingContext[devices];<br />

In this case the Item is added to devices, but this is not visible in the comboboxes..
