That doesn't do anything but showing the dialog.
Do you mean that the browser window still is shown while the dialog is open? If so, that is normal, and there is nothing you can do about it.

Dear Guffa sir,
The problem is as follows:
First,You consider the main window where showDialog is written and now it pops
a dailog window but along with this, the url mentioned in showModalDialog is
getting opened in a browser window too.
Please resolve this problem.

The code that you have shown doesn't do that. You must have some more code that is executed.

well you might use the close method after viewing the dialog, but I dont think its possible to view only the message.

In one .aspx page, the width of a cell is 150 px. During testing I entered a very long string like "THIs a verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyy long string". Now the problem is that the cell auromatically widens to accomodate the content. But, I want it to wrap the extra text to next line.
How can I do this? Please advice.

Wrap the whole control in a <table> or <div> that has a fixed width.

My pages works fine on the local development PC but after uploading I get this error when accessing the ASPX page that displays some dynamic graphics using canvas.
Any ideas from this error msg below what I can do to fix this? It seems like it does not see or use the DLL? Does this need to be ïnstalled/registered on the IIS server I have uploaded to?

hi all,
how can i delete temp files used in session when the session ends?
the user does not have to authenticate for the session. but a temporary invoice is created as pdf and shown as link on page after it is emailed off. when the session ends i would like to delete this file to not clutter up server.
any ideas please?

If there is any event that happens when the session times out, you can use that.
If you would have mentioned what platform you are using, I could have been more specific.

sorry i just assumed this was asp.net forum
im using c# too 
the session_end doesnt fire, i know this only fires when the session times out and not when the browser is closed, but the file is not being deleted. and the event isnt fired
any ideas please.
i was thinking of firing a thread on application start to handle all the cleanup by associating a sessionid with the file and if that session id wasnt current then it would delete the file, but i think i would (to be safe) have to sleep the thread for at least 30 mins as they could leave the page with the link open indefinetly.
sleeping a thread for this long doesnt seem right. so i abandoned that thought.

Are you really sure that the event isn't fired? Can't it be that the code that you have put in the event handler isn't working? As the event isn't running as the result of a request, there are some things that you can't use in the code, like Server.MapPath.
You shouldn't need a separate thread to handle this, as there already is a thread running that fires events when the sessions end. Make your code work with the system instead of trying to build a copy of it.

this code in session_end doesnt delete the file, and it definityle exists, it should always but just to be sure i check, in case of creation errors.

Then it might be a file permission issue.
In ASP, the Session_OnEnd event runs directly under the IIS process that uses a different user account. The same might apply to ASP.NET.
Try to set change permission to the folder for the IWAM_[machinename] account also.

I am trying to validate a text box as the user keys in the dollar amount. Using the below function, if the user keys in "a", it does the alert If I key in 10aa, I get the alert but if I key in 10a, I don't get the alert.
Any ideas about what I am doing wrong.

I am working on a project where I need to upload a logo that can be used with different t-shirt styles, colors and the logo must be able to resize on fly and maintain transparency color.
-My original idea was to use aspimage by using either DoMerge or AddImageTransparent but aspimage won't let me load gif file

-then I decided to go with .png (by keeping t-shirt in background in the table) but png has some compatibility issue since IE doesn't support variable transparency or alpha channel (which means I have to specify only ONE transparency color to begin with)
-then I look for info about asp.net but it turned out that asp.net doesn't support transparency
-then I finally found this SevenObjects that let me Create Thumbnails & Maintain GIF Transparency

so here are my questions
1) How do I create .gif or .png thumbnails on fly which maintain transparency color
