Is there an easy way to clear my recent projects list? I found http://www.codeproject.com/csharp/VSRecentcleaner.asp[^], but that works for VS2003, and doesn't work for 2005. Have they implimented a menu solution, or is there a new registry directory to remove from?
Any advice?

You'll have to explorer whether these services expose any kind of an API for doing what you want. If not, you'll have to download and parse the HTML pages that come back from those sites.
In either case, you'll have to write a module for each of the services you want to deal with, be it by an API or parsing HTML. Each site is going to be different. This means writing each class module by implementing an interface that your main application will require them to use.

I wanted to know how to download the pages and parse it to read the address book using API's and I have already send you the sample application link.
I have done some R & D and came to the conclusion that it is possible using HTTPWEBREQUEST classes in ASP.NET or PHP and CURL.
If anybody knows how to go about let us know!

Yes, you would probably use the HttpWebRequest class. When you get the page, you'd probably use Regular Expressions to parse up the page and retrieve the pieces of information you need. I don't have any examples of it though.

I would like to share the knowledge with you that we can do this by using PHP and CURL technology.
So if we want to use ASP.NET then I think it should be possible using HTTPWEBREQUEST and HTTPWEBRESPONSE classes. If you get the solution then let us know!

Hi! I'm trying to invoke some methods from a non-system dll, developed in C. The problem is that I get a MissingMethodException. I've read (here and there) that in PocketPC 2002 this is common because there is a problem with dynamic linking of non-system dlls.
I would really appreciate if someone has a solution for this problem or at least a clue to solve it.

I using a setup program generated from Visual Studio 2005 to redistribute my program. The msi resulting setup program install exe, dll and some html files in the end user pc. The html files work like default files and the user can change this files according your convenience. The problem is that when the user try to modify this html files at the startup of the exe file's appear a message box that inform the end user that some files is changed and a setup cd is requested to reinstall the program. Any people as a suggestion to by pass this problem? Realy each file must be unchanged after the installation?

the reason for not creating Exception classes object is to avoid memory leakage.

But the exception object is created anyway. The only thing that you accomplish by not declaring it in the catch statement, is that you don't get access to it.
Also, there is another difference when you don't declare the Exception object. It decides what kind of exceptions is caught. If you dont specify an exception, it will catch any kind of exception, even system exceptions. If you specify an Exception object, it will catch exceptions that create objects that inherit the Exception base class. If you declare a specific exception type, like ArgumentException, it will only catch exceptions that create that specific object.
You declare several Catch blocks that will catch different kinds of exceptions:

Catch ex as ArgumentException<br />
... handles specific exception<br />
Catch ex as Exception<br />
... handles all framework exceptions<br />
Catch<br />
... handles all system exceptions<br />
End Try

Thats what I wanted to know that .NET interally creates which Exception object & how do I get the value of Message property of that exception class that it creates internally

You get the value by simply declaring the exception object in the catch statement.

I doubt the memory leak is caused by the declartion of the Exception variable. The exception is generated anyway - it's just not assigned locally.
What are you doing with the message? Probably the leak resides there.

When an exception is thrown the stack starts to unwind. If you have created any objects that inherit the IDisposable interface then you you need to dispose of them as the stack is unwinding. That is what the finally block is for. Even if you don't catch an exception in a block of code, if it creates a disposable object it should have a finally block.
Dim someObject As SomeObjectClassThatInheritsIDisposable
Try
' Do stuff with someObject
' An exception may be thrown here
End Try
Finally
' Clear up someObject when finished with it.
If Not someObject = Nothing Then
someObject.Dispose()
End If
End Finally
Just remember that the code in the finally block executes regardless of whether the exception was thrown or not. The idea is that this is where you place the clean up code that must be executed in order have disposable objects clean up properly regardless of the state of the system.
Sorry, I'm a C# developer, so my VB.NET may not be totally syntactically correct, but the essence of the idea is exactly the same.

I got a problem Registering the dll in VS 2005 created in VB.NET and i need to use it for the application which is created in VB6. The application currently uses the dll created in VB6 and we need to port it to .NET platform.
So i would like to know,
1. If it can be used by VB6 application?
2. How to register it?

I am currently working on a c# app to replace an old Delphi application.
Using IdSMTP.QuickSend() in Delphi I can put any made up address I like for the from field.
Using System.Web.Mail.SmtpMail.Send() in c# the mail will not be sent if the from address is not valid. There is no error returned or exception thrown if the from address does not exist.
Does anyone know why this is or how I can get System.Web.Mail.SmtpMail.Send() to work with from addresses that dont exist.
I realise creating the address on our server is easy and that is what I intend to do but I would like to know why i have to do this and why System.Web.Mail.SmtpMail.Send() does not give any indication that it has failed.

That is not because of a difference in implementation, but a difference in the SMTP server used. To prevent spam, the SMTP server you are using is set up to only accept existing sender addresses. So, there is nothing that you can do in your code to make the SMTP server accept a non-existing address.
Have you checked the mail folders on the server for rejected mails?

My understanding of email is limited so I may be wrong but I am pretty sure this is not the case. This is our own internal server and I can run the Delphi implementaion of this program which works with the same server and can send email with any from address.

i think to replacing my data storage (DB) with XML files which each file represent a table in DB and make select and other operations on them.
Is my think right and why?

In this case, you are just exposing your data to other user. In terms of security, have you really consider? Besides, it means everytime u have to use dataset to read the xml to filter, and perform database functionality. Would it be efficient ?
