Who's had good results with intraocular lenses? (Contacts slipped under the surface of the cornea.) I may have too large pupils or too thin a cornea for Lasik. These lenses are reversable, too, in case a better treatment comes along. I always think about emergency situations where my contacts fall out (in water, rushing out of the house because of fire, earthquake) and would like to get Lasik or these intraocular lenses done.

I don't know about those types of implants, but I had IOL lens replacement recently to correct a problem uncorrectable by glasses or contacts. I was more concerned with choosing the right surgeon than the procedure itself, so I did a lot of homework.
Was it worth it? Yes. I can drive without glasses for the first time in over 25 years. I still need glasses to read, but that's ok by me.
Have I had any problems? Few. I get some halos around lights at night, but for the type of IOL I have there is another procedure later to address that.
Would I have done this if it were not medically necessary? No. There is some risk in any surgery.

I wear glasses (Short Sighted) only when I need to read whiteboards etc at Meetings (or when driving) but for normal dev work I dont need them. Whats the trend with everyone else?
I have debated laser, but I'm not sure about the after-effects (or longterm)...

I've been a full time programmer for 3 years now and over that time I've noticed my eyesight get worse & worse. I used to have pretty good vision. Now it's horrendous.
I've put off getting glasses/contacts for quite some time now but a few weeks ago, something happended that made me change my mind.
For fun, I play goalie for an ice hockey team and a few weeks ago, we were playing a playoff game, up by 1 goal. Now, anytime someone takes a shot at me from up close, I have no problem. The ones I get nervous about are the shots from a distance since they're nothing but a big blur to me until it's right in front of my face.
The other team took a shot from way down near their goal just to clear the puck out of their zone and I had no clue where the puck was heading. I was just hoping the shot would miss the net. By the time I saw the puck, it was inches from my body & about to go in. I awkwardly stuck my leg out and caught a piece of the puck. The puck deflected off the tip of my leg pad and luckily hit the goal post.
We won the game but that would have been the most embarrasing goal I had ever let up.
Needless to say, I have an appointment with an eye doctor next week.

I have definitely been blessed with eye sight, but needs some serious correction.  Started wearing glasses in 2nd grade, finally stopped getting worse around mid to late 20s. Just saw the doc and he said there is a new eye procedure that can correct my vision since LK can't really fix it. The new procedure involves putting in implants and is completely reversible (approx $5000). However, I doubt I'll ever do it unless medically necessary.
Thank the Lord I CAN see, so I can program!!!

Its the reason the Marine Corps discharged me! They diagnosed me with Keratoconus which means i progressively get thicker glasses on my right eye before i'm forced to get hard contacts, my left eye however, it can see Pamela Anderson coming from 100 miles away One thing i've noticed though, is I can spend far more time on a computer when i have an LCD monitor compared to the blaring CRT monitors.

Absolutely, these TFT displays (or LCD, or whatever) are much easier on the eyes (and the desk) than those nasty CRTs

Hi All,
I have a grid . I didnt bind any data to the grid.In first colunm of grid i have a text box. in second column i have dropdownlist box.When i click on add button a new row should be added to the grid alongwith the controls.
I will enter the data into that controls and i need to capture all the data into a data table..and i have to create an xml file by taking the DataTable object...
pls help me how to do this

When I stated out in as a Sys Admin 8+ years ago I didn't need glasses. About 6 months into the job I got "promoted" to Web Master and about 6 months into that I stated waring glasses. Since then I have had to get a slightly stronger prescription every 2 years.
My I doctor told me that if I get out of IT and become a goat farmer I would need to ware glasses anymore.
OH and along with that I have a nice bit of carpal tunnel in right wrist, and some in my index fingers. Oh some how sitting on my arse all day has caused some strange knee problems.
But the money is good and it beats working at Mickey D's.

The past 10 years I have been in front of a pc for both work and play, wearing glasses the majority of that time. My prescription has stayed the same for one eye and has actually gotten better for the other.
Maybe it's the steady supply of strained carrots that I requested my employer provide.

i've needed correction since i was 3 years old. my mother always tells me that i would crawl into walls alot when i was a baby. i guess that makes sense...

yeah, that's the reaction i get from alot of people when i have this conversation... but i assure you, it's not a typo. maybe i'll have to take a snapshot of my contact lens containers when i get my next pair.
i'm only 31 and already have experienced macular degeneration in my right eye.

I have heard that this type of eye malfunction can be removed with a laser surgery. Did u try that?

yes, i've been treated for it. it's not a traditional laser or lasek/lasik surgery that will help; rather a treatment called Visudyne.
The form of MD that I have (the 'wet' variety) is caused by cracks in the eyeball which allow tiny blood vessels to grow up through and pop up under the retina. In my case it just so happens that my crack runs right through my macular layer (the part of the retina responsible for high detail vision).
it's actually pretty interesting the way it works. since it's basically a blood vessel that's causing the problem they inject me with a photosensetive chemical which travels through my bloodstream. After a few seconds they focus a laserbeam (light laser, not a heat laser) through a lens that they place on your eyeball onto the blood vessel. hold it for about 60 seconds and that's it. the lights reaction on the photosensetive checmical destroys the blood vessel.
i would say the procedure fixed the problem about 90-95%
