Hi folks,

I'm new here and very new to c++ i have however programmed a lot in visual basic.

I have managed to make a window with some controls on it (simple ones) however i have a problem.

How do i read in a gif file and go through it pixel by pixel checking the color? (are there tutorials on this?) then after i have done some calculations how do i rotate the picture like 20 degrees and then save it so i can read the pixels again of the rotated object? (are there any tutorials on this?)

I'm very new to this all but i have to make it for school any help or tips/ideas are welcome

u can use GDI+. The classes Graphics and Image let u manupulate images. see msdn help on GDI+ for more.

Hi thanks for the fast reply but i have searched and GDI+ seems to be only for .NET? i have the visual c++ 6 version. Do you have by any chance a tutorial for this subject (a link or so?) i'll try searching further hope you can provide me with some links.

no, you can use it in VC6. for example:

Hmmm but when i eventually make an executable of my program doesn't the users need to install GDI+ also on there computer?

but there are bitmap classes on CodeProject, and you can find some in the links in my .sig (shameless self-promotion).

Get the spec for a GIF file from http://www.wotsit.org/

To rotate, is just simple geometric calculations, a triangle, you know the angle and you know the length of 1 side, applied to each pixel, don't forget the resulting bit map will be larger than the one you started with.

If you search the net you will find better algorithms.

Thank you.
I just want to create a self defined toolbar.There is just one command that all the buttons are handled .Only difference is that the buttons have different string attached.
Then I can fetch the string for advanced processing.

Why do you not want the document to update the view? The view is supposed to render what the document contains. When the document changes, it notifies the view that it needs to be updated. It makes sense that you should be updating the document and let it notify the view through normal channels.

I'm developing an app that opens a connection to a database and makes a massive import to many tables of it.
To do that I open and close the tables several times in some loop statements.
The problem is that, when I open a table the service of the sql server (sqlservr.exe) increases the usage of the cpu it uses.
When I close the table it should release the resources, but it doesn't!

Does anyone know if there is a setting of the sql server that must be changed to do that?

So are you concerned with CPU usage, or resource consumption?

So, after plenty opens of tables I have serious memory problems!!!

So is it the high CPU usage, or the serious memory problems that are bothering you? It's been five years since I've used SQL Server but I do recall it having a good profiler. SQL Server, in and of itself, is a very big application. For it to continue to tax the CPU even after you've closed a table is not surprising. I would not expect that to continue for any longer than a minute or so. Memory consumption is different, however. The number(s) you see in Task Manager are a bit misleading. Read the last part of this article for an explanation.

One problem with this sort of question is that there are so many ways to access ODBC from C++.
If you are calling the SQL API with functions such as SQLExecDirect then you must remember to call
SQLFreeStmt
SQLDisconnect
and SQLFreeConnect

Also, check to see if the CPU is freed up after your program terminates. This would be an indication that the program clean up is doing something that you are forgetting to.
