I have building this project successfully in the Visual C++ 7.0.

But I still would like to know how to fix this problem in Visual C++ 6.0.

You may need to change the values of the #define values WINVER, _WIN32_WINNT, and _WIN32_IE. These values control, at compile time, the availability of certain declarations. I typically use:

#define WINVER        0x0501
#define _WIN32_WINNT  0x0501
#define _WIN32_IE     0x0600

These specify Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6.0 and greater. The best place to set these is at the top of stdafx.h, before you have #included any of the system header files.

Sorry I am posting this question again in VC++ thread, posted it earlier in COM section but seems like responses are bit slow in that section. Requesting all the readers to please answer my query if they feel they can provide some inputs.

I am using a third party COM component to connect to a remote SSH server. For this I have created a STA thread. Now I have a trivial user scenario, when the user issues a connect command a modal dialog is shown with a cancel button to display the status of connection. At anytime the user can press cancel button to abort the operation. Since the calls to cancel/abort are generally asynchronous the actual call to disconnect comes from a different STA thread. Now the problem I am facing is that the after the user clicks the cancel button the dialog is not getting disposed away and the thread is not stopping, thus my application hangs. If I attach a debugger to the release build of the application, the application breaks in the debugger with Invalid RtlHeapAddress. Initially I though it could be a problem of directly accessing my interface pointer, so I marshalled the interface pointer using GlobalInterfaceTable, yet the result is the same.

After some debugging I found that the call to Connect is not returning at all, to be on a safer side I have a message loops in my all STA threads.

How do I make sure that my dialog is disposed properly and my STA thread also stops properly.

I am using VC++ 6.0 for developing my application. The COM part is implemented using pure C++

Hi,

1. Who creates Modal dialog box?. Is it created by the Connect method?

2. How you are sending the Cancel/Continue message to the STA thread? (I mean are you just using SendMessage/PostMessage). Use cannot use SendMessage and PostMessage on different thread. If you use, try PostThreadMessage).

Thanks for the reply. Now for your queries,

The applications mainframe window creates a modal dialog in response to the menu action. The modal dialog is itself a thread. In the execute method of the thread it creates a connection to the remote server. Now if the connection is SSH I create another thread, this time a STA thread because I wanted to create the component on the thread itself,once the component is created successfully I proceed normally to actually open a connection.
Till the time the connection is created the user is displayed a modal dialog created earlier with a cancel button. If the user clicks on Cancel button I first issues a DisConnect call then use PostThreadMessage to send a WM_QUIT message to the thread that created a component and then wait for the thread to quit using MsgWaitForMultipleObjects API with an INFINITE time out specified, I am also pumping windows messages while waiting.

Hope this helps you to analyze the problem further.

Also please Note that it is difficult to change the current design as it is a legacy application

I have a problem in VC i.e

after runing my program I loaded a list of "Bitmaps names" in a list box on a dialog box and then when i select one of these bitmaps the selected bitmaps has displayed which is in the oninit() function of MFC,but the previous window which have listbox of bitmaps has been closed and i want oth window visible to me, I did nothing for displaying bitmaps just use bitblt() function in onInitDialog() of MFC but the origional dialog box which has bitmaps list has been closed,and I want both window visible to me.

Plz guid me.

This is wrong method. You can't use bitblt in OnInitDialog() function. Because windows controls are displayed when WM_PAINT called.

I could not understand your child control became invisible. I think bitmap image could be overlapped. Just check that.

Please go for owner-drawn button controls. You can find a lot of samples for Owner-drawn controls..

Check wheather CFile::GetStatus() or _access C runtime function is of any help

Sharing data between two DLLs

Hi all,

In my project i have two DLLs(say DLL1 and DLL2).
DLL1 needs to access an array defined in DLL2.

I found many articles on Codeproject and other websites specifying sharing data among processes loading instances of a DLL.But here i have two separate DLLs.

IF anyone can help me with this.

One more way is to use TLS (Thread Local Storage) if your dlls belongs to same thread).
