hi all,

a new commer may add a value, a windows update server is the solution, you can find it at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserversystem/updateservices/downloads/WSUS.mspx[^] go to Deployment Guide, it will help

On the other hand, if your PC is a good one, make it a server, and let the workgroup join your domain as phase one, make it a pilot and through it you can present your idea of having a server

Tell your boss the benifits of having a server starting from:-
- file sharing with central access control mainly for data confidentiality
- make sure that you have another hard disk drive to do a daily backup, this will protect all company's data from damage
- print sharing centrally, means that you control printers and print servers

propose the server with RAID controller and tape drive for stability and backup

- for updates, make this server as SUS, and corporate antivirus server
- if you have internet access, install ISA server to control and monitor internet access

after that you may need to have another server for:
- DNS, Web and email system for your company, that sure will save you hosting expences and internet band width utilization

or install them all on the same server, but make sure you protect your network by a firewall function
