It's not a problem at all, dialogs have a fixed size. It "looks smaller" on 1280x1024 than 800x600 because there's more screen there.

To change the dlg size, call CWnd::SetWindowPos() at the end of your OnInitDialog(). But you'll need to resize/reposition all your controls as well, or the dlg will look fugly.

Maybe, it's better to create more than one dialog if the size is important. At run time you can check screen resolution and use the proper one.

This sort-of kind-of does it... I put this code in at the end of InitInstance, after the window has been shown.

Might need a little fine tuning...

// silly rect..

pMainFrame->MoveWindow(&rect,TRUE);

pMainFrame->ModifyStyle(WS_THICKFRAME,0);

You can call ModifyStyle with WS_MAXIMIZEBOX as well, if you want to prevent maximizing the window.

I am using Visual C++ version 6.0. I receive this error when I try to execute my application on a system without Visual C++.

This was a problem in previous versions of VC++. I checked the file that contained the error (daocore.cpp) and it appears that the fix is installed in version 6.0.

Any ideas/suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi,
I want to replace the default MFC icon in the Application's title bar as well as in the Explorer.

I have repainted the IDR_MAINFRAME icon using the resource editor but even after doing this and after rebuilding all the files, the application still shows the default MFC icon.

Why is this so and what should I do to display a new icon?

Windows uses the first icon it finds in the resource. The AppStudio places the icon with the lowest resource number first. IDR_MAINFRAME is usually the lowest number, so you should replace the IDR_MAINFRAME icon with the icon you want to use, or create a new icon that has a lower resource ID number than IDR_MAINFRAME.

I have a dialog-based application. I would like to have an icon displayed in the task bar, on the right edge near the clock, when user boots up the windows operating system. So when user moves mouse over the icon, some explanatory words will be displayed; or when user left-click the icon, the program will be executed. Is this possible? If it is, how? Please help. Anyone have the scelleton-code for a Windows 2000 driver? Need some info about how to write one. I am going to use the 8254 Timer Chip, etc.

Why do you need to use this chip directly? Chances are, Windows is already making use of it, and trying to modify it directly with a driver could cause Windows to become unstable.

Hi,

I have a MFC application that uses Microsoft Access tables.
The result of my program writes data into a Access database so at the end, I have a Table with the results.

I would like to know: How can I allow the user to save that RESULT TABLE where they SPECIFY the name of the table and the location of where to save it?

If anyone has any ideas, Please let me know.

There is an article on this site called Undocument VC++ or something similar that describes some of the issues you're trying to deal with.

It's not easy, and it's a major hack.

Hello,

I'm new to VC++ and struggling with doing something that should be fairly simple.

I have two projects in my workspace, proj1 and proj2. Proj2 has UNICODE and non-Unicode builds, and
debug and release versions of both. Proj1 only has Debug and Release.

What I want to do is say, when building proj2 UNICODE Debug, make sure that proj1 *Debug* is built.

VC++ isn't letting me do this. It always builds the Release version of proj1, no matter what. How do I
tell it what configuration to depend on?

Hmmm... this shouldn't be happening.

I took an existing dsw with a couple of projects, and set a dependency of one project (Pro1) to another (NewSMTPSample) - as shown here in the exported make file:

As you can see, it should detect the build settings and select the corresponding build of the dependency. I suspect its because there is no UNICODE build that things get messed up. Export the makefile and have a look. You can probably edit it to achieve the desired results.
