Hi!
I have an app that writes to a log file all the app's steps. I have several threads writing several times per second to the log file. The thing is that i have detected an exception with one of those writings, when i try to OPEN the log file. I use FileShare.Write so that there's no problem with writes form several threads at the same time(i thought).Did anybody experienced such a problem or is it my bug? I only write to the log in one function and i close the filestrems an the end.The code is:

Hi!
In the button's handle declare a new textbox(withevents if you want or add the handlers you desire), initialize it and finally add the Control to the Form, or else the button won't show up.

Ok.sorry.I was on a hurry, i was leaving for my lunch hour :P
In the handler of the button you need to declare a new textBox object and do all the stuff i wrote.Here's a simple case:
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
dim myTextBox as New TextBox
myTextBox.Location = (...)
myTextBox.Size = (...)
'If you need handlers
AddHandler myTextBox.(...), AddressOf myHandlerFunction
Me.Controls.Add(myTextBox)
(...)
End Sub
That's it then you can access the textBox through the Controls collection (Me.Controls(x)).If you would like to access the textbox in another way, and because you create them dinamically, maybe you should keep them in an arrayList or hashTable.

Hi,
I am using Webbrowser control to make a sort of custom web browser. I can browse any URLs with the Navigate method of the Webbrowser control. But when I use this method to open a saved URL shortcut, it doesn't open properly - graphics are not loaded. I saw that Webbrowser is opening not the URL contained in the URL shortcut but some other file in the Temporary Internet Files directory. I deleted temporary internet files, cleared history etc but still it seems the webbrowser generates the temporary file from the shortcut.
How can I make sure that the Navigate method opens the acutal URL contained in the shortcut ?
I hope what I ask is clear enough.

You can't send Navigate the shortcut. Since your doing this in your own browser, you'll have to open the shortcut, get the URL out of it, then use that in the Navigate method.

Well, that's a bit of a problem. Read this[^], about half way down the page. You might be able to read the shortcut using a similar technique.

Either use TXEdit as a control in which the word document can be loaded and then printed from or
use the OS command line to execute the file-with the command print

We are in the initial stages of design analysis and I'm trying to come up
with some ideas on how to handle the feature our users are requiring from the
new application. We are using VB.NET/window forms
Feature Requested:
A user will be entering some data that will trigger an a notification event.
For example I am a research analyst entering a sell recommendation for a
stock. Once that action is preformed a notification should be sent the
portfolio manager and the traders. The portfolio managers and traders will
have a main screen and in the right hand corner they will have a grid that
will show the notification coming in real time from the research analysts,
traders and other portfolio managers. These real time notifications will
trigger the user to perform other tasks. Also these notifications need to be
stored in a sql db because if they shutdown the system they need to be able
to bring those notifications back up.
My question is how do I poll for new notifications on a real time basis and
have it not impact the users performance or have any other major downside
impacts on the environment. I was thinking of using a timer control and
making asynch calls to the queue table that will hold the notifications, but
I don't know if that is the best approach.

I looked at MSMQ and that was my first thought, but my data that I need to check for will be stored in a sql table. Plus when I think of MSMQ I think of it has a bridge between systems not a bridge between users utilizing the same system.

OK. I was thinking of a server component that reads the Messages, does the appropriate translations into the SQL database, signals any other processes that may be necessary, maybe does a little processing, and schedules return messages for outbound in another Message Queue.
MSMQ is not just for bridging systems, but is great for disconnected transaction based client-server systems (such as order processing). If the system is shut down, all the messages get queued up on the client until it's available again. Same with outbound messages...

I have a combobox populated with 1300+ names. I want to make it easier for my data entry clerk to enter the last name, and it pulls from the list.
I found the following link:

This knowledgebase article lists some code that doesn't work the way I need it. The code searches in the list for a name that matches and if so, it selects it. If not, it allows the client to type in a new name.
I need code to select only from the list and if you type something not on the list and backspace to retype, it picks up again.
Does anyone have some code suggestions or enhancements to this code that might help?
Any suggestions are appreciated.
