Im using a shared Networked computer of which i don't have administrative rights. How can i block others users who logs in or deny them some resources so that they change to use other computers;).

It is impossible to do that. If you are an administrator, you would be able to do it by disable the user account. But if you have a power user right, you would be able to disable only the account that you create.

Hello,
We, SYSWARE Healthcare Systems Inc., are registered users of Clarion in developing our LIS products. We have used the functionality of PEEK() and POKE() in one of our server products which connects to different remote module using winsock functionality. In developing our server we have used the above specified functions.
While going through the clarion help we have come across that if the above mentioned functions are not used correctly then it may lead to GPF - error in a clarion application and that is what exactly happenning in our case. Also in the clarion help it is mentioned that use of Windows API function which provides the same functionality should be preferred over the use of POKE() and PEEK().
After searching the net and related books i could not find the function that can be used in Clarion. Can you please guide us in this matter. We need to know the API function name that can be used in place of PEEK() and POKE() along with the explaination as to how it can be incorporated in the clarion application

Hi!
I've got currently win2k-pro on my system installed. The installation is located on my C:/ partition. Another partition (on the same physical disk) is hosting all data. When I now try to reinstall win2k, setup does not allow me to delete the current system partion, which I'd really like to do since it is all messed up.
I've tried running the setup by simply booting from the CD-Rom and by launching it from the currently installed win-2k. Both ways do not seem to yield the expected results.
Any ideas?

Yes, it is a little bit difficult for your do that. I used to have an expereince like you too. You could not delete the the C: drive while there is/are another drive exist on the system. Try to use this product[^] to access your C: partition from the boot diskette, then delete everthing from the C: drive. Then reinstall your windows 2000 again. Thanks for the helpful reply! Unfortunately, the site download on the site does not work. I've been searching the web for it just to get pointed to sysinternals.com[^]. They have a tool like this as well, but w/o the needed information to use it as a boot floppy.
Do you know where I can get the tool? I'm quite desperate so any help would be greatly appreceated.

Get the tool from here.[^], but i think it just a read only version for NTFS (because it is a trail version)...
Or you can try to use Bart PE[^] to build a bootable windows xp or 2003 (run windows from CDROM) to access the partition and delete any file from drive C:. If you have any problem don't forge to let me know.

I have some legacy embedded 8086-hosted software that I would like to run on a PC, mainly running test scripts through it. This is not too difficult except that the code contains some input/output port operations.
Does anyone know of any existing software that can intercept these i/o port operations and substitute memory reads/writes? This would allow me to simulate the i/o operations.
I have the source code for my embedded code and could amend it to use memory operations but I would rather not do this.

I'm having a lot of page-faults in my app. Also, there is a lot of disk IO.
I know this is simple, but can anyone show me how to calculate the performance hit for each IO. What is the formula. Maybe give an example. That would be very helpful.

Command prompt (Windows XP, SP2, all updates) has become *painfully slow*  When typing it takes 2 seconds or more for a character to appear, also the commnad prompt window does not move smoothly accross the screen.
Anybody ever experienced this?

It sounds like your video acceleration settings have been turned down. Go into Control Panel > Display > Settings tab, click Advanced, go to Troubleshoot tab and move the Hardware Acceleration slider all the way to the right.
Typically this setting is turned down automatically when a video driver fault is detected. Consider checking for an updated video driver. Also check that your current video driver is correct for your hardware.
Finally, ensure you're using the XP command prompt, cmd.exe, rather than the 16-bit Windows 9x-compatible command.com. cmd.exe is a lot faster.

Hmmm, I checked that, but unfortunately that does not seem to be the case
However, here is some new development. When I restart my machine cmd works fine, so I thought it must be some application causing this and it seems I was right.
As soon as I open Word 2003, cmd slows way down, the more documents I open, the slower it gets.
Anybody knows why in earth Word would slow down the cmd?

There are many way that I suggest you to check it:
1. Check the physical memory of your computer. How much your capacity of the physical memory?
2. Check the size of the page file. To check it go to the Property of My Computer -> Advance tab -> Setting button under Performance group and Click on the Advance tab of the appear dialog box. To change the size of the virtual memory, click on the Change button. Then set the size for the virtual memory. Or you can move the page file to the other drive to optimize your computer performance.
3. Check the hard ware component for your computer. Whether you have to much device driver to load during the time that your computer start. So it will consume you a lot of memory from your computer.
4. Check the Performance under Administrative tool to identify the current operation of your computer.

Can the same thing happen just after a fresh upgrade to Win XP SP2?
Could not restart but then applied a registry fix for AMD64. Can now restart but was slow to get to login screen. But now I just get a blank screen with my default wallpaper. Ctrl+Alt+Del works to get task manager. Then icons and taskbar appeared after 5-10 mins. All operations very very slow. Then I had to leave for work on Monday morning. Won't be home again until tomorrow night.

My server is win2003 Enterprise server. I want to format my PC and install fresh version of win2003 server.But in ActiveDirectory i have several OUs and tonns of users wich are configured with home foders,and profiles.so how can i backup my Server?

Use NTBackup to back up the system state.
Alternatively you could promote another server to a domain controller, force the data to replicate, then remove the first DC before reinstalling.
