Hello !
I heve a SDI application (so, NO dialog box !) and when I 'open' the keyboard and press the Enter key, the program exits. I use 3 view classes that are managed by the CMainFrame class.
How can I solve the problem ?

So, instead of a smart minimize button (x) you have an (ok) button, right? This may be what is causing the unwanted behavior.

Hum... In fact it has been removed in the OnCreate function from the CMainFrame class:
ModifyStyle(0, WS_MINIMIZEBOX, SWP_NOSIZE);<br />
SHDoneButton(this->m_hWnd, SHDB_HIDE);<br />
But, ok, the behaviour is still there. So maybe I will need to override the OnChar method so that it doesn't call OnChar from base class when the key pressed is Enter... I hope it will solve the problem.

Hi,
I am developing an app on ppc2003 and i face some problems. I need to have at least 2 background processes that access the IR and BT port for serial comms. furthermore, the application is controlled by the main window and it has to terminate when the user presses stop and give a signal when the user clicks a button.
How do i go about doing this? is threads the best way out? and how do i start using threads. I am using MFC for my app.

Hi,
you should use AfxBeginThread() function.
first,define your thread like this:
UINT TestThread(LPVOID lpvoid);
now,from the main dialog(which controls the threads) call the function
AfxBeginThread(TestThread,this);
now,the thread(let's say your main window class is CMainDlg):
UINT TestThread(LPVOID lpvoid)
{
CMainDlg *dlg = (CMainDlg *)lpvoid;
//All CMainDlg veriables are referenced throug dlg

Hello!
I need a database system that would allow me to create a database dynamically during the execution of an application, following to the options selected by the user. For the moment I found the SQL server and the Excel files that could be used as a database. As I know Win CE doesn't yet offer Access databases  (. The problem is that I don't what to create an application and then tell the user that he has to install the SQL Server to use it and the problem with Excel files is that for a small apllication they are OK... but for bigger and more complex ones they don't work... as you need to use more tables, relations between tables and so on... I need you to help me with a sugestion and help me select a database system that would be easy to use and has lots of capabilities. (all for Pocket PCs  ))

You can use the native property database engine on Windows CE. Check the online help for entries related to CeOpenDatabaseEx.

Hi, I have a similar problem that I want to input data on a handheld and later transfar data sets to the PC. Right now I am using Pocket PC 2002, C++ and possibly MFC. As a first guess I would store data into a database on the device, later sync and import it into a SQL database on a PC. Would be very helpfull to get:
a) overview of which database APIs and classes are available
b) posisble to automatically sync the database to an SQL server when device is connected to PC?
c) how about using flat files and no database on the device at all to store data, stone age?

Hi,
When I try to open a raw socket on a pocket PC I get the following error code from the failed call to socket():
WSAESOCKTNOSUPPORT (10044)
•Translation: Socket type not supported.
•Description: The support for the specified socket type does not exist in this address family. For example, the SOCK_RAW optional type may be selected in a socket (Wsapiref_2qr6.asp) call but the implementation does not support SOCK_RAW sockets at all.
The code I use to open the socket is:
rawSocket = socket(AF_INET, SOCK_RAW, IPPROTO_ICMP);
The error code suggests that raw sockets are not implemented on CE (Pocket PC 4.20) ? Can someone confirm this? I have some code that performs an ICMP ping and I would like to run it on CE, but it appears as if this will not be possible.

Hi!
I am planning, to by an SDA Smartphone (Qtek 8020) from a shop (not from a mobile operator). I read about the security model of smartphones (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnsmtphn2k3/html/smartphone_security.asp)
and I would like to know, if a smartphone bought in a shop is good for development purposes. Now I got an SPV 200, it was good, but a newer one is needed.
Unfortunately it is an urgent question, I have to order it tommarow.

I am writing a dialer program in PocketPC2003. I want to notify the user the incoming call via a notification bubble. I hope the bubble not to be dismissed until the user click the button on the bubble or the call is dissmissed. Just like the one provided by MS in PocketPC phone.
When I test the shell notification APIs, I find that the bubble will be dismissed automatically when I tap anywhere outside the bubble region.
How can I avoid this?

Masm ships with Professional and Enterprise versions of VS.Net. If you have either, you have the macro-assembler. I think it's called ML.exe.

Hey all, just found this site and it looks pretty good from what I have seen so far.
For my Dell Axim X5 I am trying to develop a small app that will read the GPS stream from my Compat Flash GPS unit and write the stream to the CF card as a text file.
I have been able to write an application to do this on my laptop using Python and again in Java (the languages that I work in) All I have to do (have done on my laptop) is open the COM Port and start reading. Sounds simple, I know, however it has been quite some time since I have developed a native application for windows and I am lost when it comes to the PPC.

my program need to add control during runtime, and the control adding is triggered by a socket listening thread. However, i discover that the control adding cannot do in different thread, and ArgumentException will throw.
Here is the Code for demostrate the problem.(Click the button1 will open a new thread to add textbox1) Any Idea to solve the problem?

The problem only occur in .Net compact framework. It work fine on windows platform's .net framework

CAN NOT DEPLOY/DEBUG a CF application in any language ON THE IPAQ EMULATOR after installing the FULL REMOTE DEBUGGING COMPONENTS.
the ipac emulator 2002 was working fine until then. I reloaded the entire .NET system including the framework, vs .net and it still does not work.
does anybody have any idea where in the registry is the debugging information kept?
I really don't want to rebuild the entire system if I don't have to...
versions used:
Microsoft development environment version 7.1.3088
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 version 1.1.4322
Any help will be greatly appreciated….

I am looking for unoptimised C codes that considerably reduces the performance of the system.
I am looking for some of the cases (like,
inline functions,constant propagation,constant folding,faster for loops,loop fusion,loop jamming,table lookup,arrays,induction variable,commom sub expressions etc) by which when a programmer misuses them(above mentioned cases) in turn affect the performance of the system.
Example for Common Sub Expression Elimination.
(unoptimised code)
t1=x+y+1;
t2=x+y;
Instead declare a temporary variable say temp.calculate temp=x+y and then use in these instructions.so,introducing temp becomes my optimised code avoiding calculations.
temp=x+y;
t1=temp+1;
t2=temp;
By doing this i am avoiding the calculation thats happening twice.if such calculations are in for loop it really affects the performance.By doing this Common sub expression elimination we gain performance.
I am looking for such unoptimised codes in the cases mentioned above.
If anyone gets please do send me the details.
