It's an awesome honor - the pinnacle of something - a surprise, for sure, as I thought it to be rather mundane . . .

I thought it was an interesting post but didn't have time to comment on it then. I bought one for a gift over 10 years ago and always intended to get one for myself...I'm sure the hardware and software has improved dramatically since I last looked at them.

Actually - the reason for the original post is because the massive influx of Chinese made equipment and software has turned it into a rather problematic decision. Specifications aren't quite enough as you need to read the (negative) comments to find the flaws that, no surprise, are overlooked.
Then, of course, there's the good stuff - much more than I had planned on spending. I'll bite the bullet at some point, but flailing with various versions of searches seems to be the current state.
It may end up in the mode of getting something rather cheap that works and simultaneously ascertaining interest (of the young ones) and what features, in actual operation, are really must-haves.
