Well technically it hurts. You can feel a pain in your stomach. I tried it this morning the first thing when I woke up. About 10 seconds later, exhaling vigorously...

Just made a in-house research about vegetables... I found that we buy a bit less than 17 Kg of vegetables each week...
The five vegetables made to the top are:
1. Cucumber
2. Zucchini (of different colors)
3. Potato
4. Carrot (of different colors)
5. Beetroot

Here's my list of this weeks' vegetables;
1. Ketchup/tomato paste (for fries/pizza)
2. Fried unions (fries)
3. Sriracha (pizza)
4. Garlic powder (anything except icecream)
5. Pesto (pizza)

Since my wife has agreed - reluctantly - that peas are vegetables, and since I'm getting old, I make do with my five trips to the loo each day.

Absolutely! If potatoes weren't vegetables, hardly anyone in Wales would get any vegetables. FOrtunately, they do love their chips / fries round here: curry and rice (with chips); chilli con carne and rice (with chips); sglodion and chip supper*; ...
* "Sglodion" is Welsh for "chips", and "supper" means "with chips", so that would be chips and chips, with chips.

But both potatoes and rice are so full of carbohydrates that if you are having too high blood sugar levels, in the risk zone for developing diabetes II, you should not eat excessive amounts of either.

That risc comes more from maple sirup than from rice or potatoes. Lots of people eating just rice and beans every day, and that's a complete protein for you.

My doctor told me a year ago that I was moving into the "risc zone" for diabetes II, and recommended a change of eating habits. I never eat syrup, do not drink sweetened drinks (neither sugar nor artificial), very rarely sweets. But I did eat lots of rice, white pasta and potatoes. I replaced maybe 80-90% of that with vegetables, but no other significant changes.
Half a year later, my doctor told me: You are on the out of the danger zone, now your blood sugar level is fine! - and it has stayed that way since. I still eat lots of vegetables, only rarely (and small portions) of potato, rice and pasta.
Maybe following my doctor's advice just happened to coincide with some other reason for my long-term blood sugar levels to drop back to normal. But I can guarantee you: If so, the real reason had nothing to do with sirup of any kind, maple nor other. (Maple sirup is virtually unknown in Norway, except for those who have been spending a year or more in the USA. Don't expect to find it in every grocery store here!)

Meal-sizes will also vary, and I doubt you ate the rice dry.
Veggies are also better for your intestines, and having seen the prices in the supermarkets there - a whole lot better for your finances than extra meat

A farmer gave me 20lb of garlic one time, so I threw it in the deep freezer. It seeped into almost everything. Great for the meat, not so much for the ice cream.

Onions
Garlic
Zucchini
Yellow Squash
Broccoli
Carrots
Cucumbers
Olives
Beets
Sweet potatoes
Various other potatoes
Kale
Spinach
Chard
Bok Choy
Lettuce
Sprouts
Radishes
Mushrooms (definitely not vegetable)
Tomatoes
Basil
Brussels sprouts
Asparagus
Radicchio
Celery
Red peppers
Avocado
Dinner consists of a selection of these in various combinations, with whatever meat/fish/bean we feel like 3 or so times a week, the rest of the days its vegetarian dinner.

We had a guest for dinner recently, nice chap, but when asked what he would like to eat he said "anything except vegetables". He never ate any vegetables at all

Pancakes and syrup.
Pancakes come from wheat...a type of grass...a vegetable.
Syrup comes out of maple trees...a large vegetable.
I had vegetables (small and large) for breakfast. Seems like enough.

Chicken eat grain.
Cows eat grass.
Pigs, well...eat about anything, but ultimately it still revolves around mostly green stuff.
As long as I'm not served "food for my food", I'm all set.
