Just discovered it.
If you have many favourites in the favourites bar and you have to scroll down to find the right one, it can be a real pain. Instead just type the first letter of the page and it will directly scroll down to the shortcut.
If there is only one shortcut with that letter (maybe Z), the page loads in the browser automatically.

Looks like I'm the only one who still uses IE regularly.

Unlike Firefox, which has a search box built directly into the bookmarks bar and the bookmark manager.
Or Chrome, which has a search box built in to the bookmark manager.
Or Opera, which - you guessed it - has a search box built in to the bookmarks page.

You still need it because many PCs at businesses use it. All of our employees use IE by default. There are other options out there which many, including myself prefer over IE.
