Those memories came out of fashion just before the Elf kit was made. They may have had a certain steampunk charme, but they also were bulky (in size), small (in capacity), expensive and slow. The short but important time when people built their first computers from scratch or a kit led straight to the first computers sold in stores. Both computers were very similar in their general capabilities, but perhaps you can spot the most important difference:

And you know that the Commodore Amiga was the direct descendant of those 8 bit Atari computers, just as the Atari ST was designed by the guys who made the C64? These were hard times for loyal fanbois.

My personal experience with VS2013 and VS2015 Community Editions is that they do the job. I do not claim that they are the best compilers or IDEs out there (they certainly are not the best compilers), but they have never crashed on me.
Your mileage obviously differs from mine.
If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time - a tremendous whack.

This has happened before, whenever I had to work on this particular module. I suspect it's the older version of the entity framework that somehow makes Visual Studio think it needs to cache so much. What that could be that slowly fills all memory while Visual Studio does nothing for a few hours? Who knows.

How you celebrate your own heart attack is your affair, of course. It may be frustrating for a troll, but by now you are getting more emotional than I ever did.
So, Mr. Rational Logic, in which universe was it ever acceptable that a program grabs a few gigabytes of memory (plus some bonus for using also as much virtual memory as it could get) while it was supposed to be standing by?
Or was it ever acceptable that this program just barely left enough memory free to allow the OS to come out of standby?
Only in one thing I agree: I'm better off without them. Ever since I started to throw out Mickeysoft or at least not chasing after the next new version of something, my life has become a little less comfortable and also totally boring. Most of the smaller or nastier surprises have ended.
And that's the point where you totally misunderstand me. I'm not angry and I'm not on a crusade. I'm just happy for every bitter cup that passed by me and any dead thingie I did not waste a second of my time on.
Sorry if I confused you, but I learned the politically correct way to deal with junk and the company that runs in your door to get rid of it in Texas. To those not accustomed to this it may appear to be anger. Is there anybody here from texas who can tell him what happens when we get angry?

Only once in the last ten years they got it right. That was when they ate some humble pie after Vista. Unfortunately that did not last for long and they behaved worse than ever before. Playing along with that looks like masochism to me and I don't want to be so dependant on anything they make that I have no other choice anymore.
Flipping burgers sounds good as long as it does mean that Mickeysoft does not try to run my life by telling me what I may work on, how I may do it, what tools I have to use, what conventions I have to follow, letting them censor my work before they graciously let me sell it in their (cr)app store. And the best thing: They let you pay for this service. They even fleece you better than our government, because they are quicker to take their cut before you have to pay taxes on what they left you as income.
The only thing that I don't understand is why you guys don't simply visit the nice but stern ladies in the institute for naughty boys once in a while and get off a little cheaper.

Yes and for 2 simple reasons.
1. Because you talk about Microsoft immaturely. Mickeysoft, (cr)app, etc. Once or twice is fine to show your are frustrated but when you use name-calling every time you refer to them, you can't be taken serious.
2. When someone simply points out that you have other options and/or that things could be worse you then attack them personally.

The only thing I don't buy is your often very sweet and innocent way to ask how someone can always think so bad of the poor dears. Simple answer: Because they are crooks. They would gladly take away a lolly from a politician, who in turn just took it from a baby. If they need to, they would send an army of the morally lowest lifeforms, known as lawyers. The only thing that counts is money. Hold it high enough and they will pretend to be your humblest servants, at least until they can grab the money. Make it too easy for them and they will make you their humblest servant. And still grab your money. I don't really think that you are so naive as you pretend to be, but it also makes me wonder why exactly you play such games.

Sounds to me like he's [trying] to get real work done so it's undersanable he runs in to more of the faults in ms software than those just doing light office work or checking their email.
ms does have a long known history for not fixing bugs that real devs run into, instead trying to focus on the basic users - I mean fair enough as that's where most of their business is, but it does not mean when hard core devs get fed up [and point out the real faults that do exist] they are instantly "haters."
It's the same as the fanlemmings that buy production line 'sports cars' - you don't see pro drivers driving those off-the-rack models without a lot of complaints either do you? And even after they modify their cars they will still complain about shortcuts the manufacturers have made and never fixed. They drive their car hard, at the limit - and devs likewise drive their systems hard. Even the top gear team complained about the latest BMW, they always complain about aston, are they then 'haters'? Of course not, they are realists.
Problem is fanlemmings [like I guess you for ms] not only never see past your simplistic fantasy world to admit there really are issues and attack anyone that happens to point out any problems - real problems. The sort of person that would buy an Evo and never go over the speed limit let alone drive if it starts raining.
yes ms have good products, but they also have bugs and have often made stupid choices in those same products. Not a hater, a realist.

That sums it up quite well. For me, the operating system is a part of the computer, just like the processor or the hard disk. It's the best case if it simply does what it should and stays out of the way otherwise.
I don't want to adore it. I don't need updates every day. I don't hyperventilate over new features (which I quite often don't use anyway). And that's, from Microsoft's view, a problem. I'm not supposed to be too happy with that thing as it is. They want to usher me to their next grand vision, no matter how credible their ideas look after the minor errors of the last ten years. Vista was a mistake, Win 8 was a mistake and now the shady little tricks to get people to upgrade to Win 10 were just short of the ways criminals trick you into installing their malware on your computer.
If every company from which I ever bought something from would behave that way, I would feel like a masochist for putting up with their ideas. And no, Ryan, it's not ok just because others try to do the same. If they do, they are also on their way out. As things are now, I will not bet a single cent on Microsoft and that's the only thing in the world that may persuade them to think over their behavior. If you let them get away with it, they will only get worse.
