The Nexus is more expensive than equivalent sized Samsung Galaxy tablets. Are Nexuses updated to the latest OS versions earlier than other tablets?
What about the Kindle? Seems way cheaper than any other Android tablet, although it does come with a locked down OS (and with the Amazon Kindle outer shell).
The immediate purpose is to play Minecraft, although the tablet would also be used as a web browsing device.
Suggestions/advice? Thanks.

I've had fairly awful Samsung experiences. Their hardware is excellent when it's not actually blowing up and giving people 3rd degree burns, but their software updates are hit and miss (in my case: always miss). Nexus means you get the updates, when they come out, fairly quickly. Getting a device from another manufacturer means you have to wait for them to integrate the updates with their version of Android and then push it out.
And with Samsung, that may never happen.
I've done a fair few flights this last week. On every flight was the warning that Samsung Galaxy phones (they weren't actually specific enough) were not allowed to be used or charged during the flight. That sort of naming and shaming is unlike anything I've seen.
If you don't mind sporadic updates then I'm sure you can find units very, very cheap these days.

They were very specific on a flight I was on last week, but I can't remember which model they named and shamed. They said that the manufacturer had agreed to the ban, which I somewhat doubted.
I don't much bother with android updates, though (I like things to still be where I finally found them, after hours of searching). OS updates don't update the hardware specs or make the battery/disc life longer, so I prefer to upgrade in toto.

I was on a flight a couple of weeks back, the specific statement was the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 or 7+.

I had Androin in the form of high tier HTC, high tier Huawei, low-tier Samsung and high tier Samsung (S5 neo). As of now my experience is that Samsung remains usable longer than the other phones, with S3s perfectly functionable as of now (no crashes, same speed, all the apps available), while the other crumpled and failed between 8 and 18 months becoming unstable, chock full of undeletable data and sluggishly slow.
I usually update if necessary - the last two updates dropped my battery life and Mean Time Between Crashes to unaccaptable levels - but never had more than one update for the HTC and Huawei while the Samsung is still maintained.

Thanks Chris. Was looking for a low cost but reasonable quality tablet that'll primarily be used to play Minesweeper. Really wish the Kindle Fire supported that game - some people say it does, others say there are problems.

What about the millions who dumped the Windows phone?  I dumped mine when its port where I connected the battery charger broke, and I could no longer charge the battery. Nokia quality!

It's been a great phone, with just one exception that I can't figure out.

Hi All,
I admit I had an issue using an exe built using the serial port class. It's something of a newbie error, the exe blows up if the machine has no serial port. The first time I have actually seen it happen so  I will go back and try it properly tomorrow...  just grateful I don't have to recompile...
