In exiting VS, it asked me if I wanted to save my changes I agreed by clicking the red X at the top right of the dialog.
I was led to believe that the red X at top right of a window or dialog box is now the OK button.

I found a workaround.
If I hit the Cancel button on the Save Dialog, it should ask me the next day, and keep badgering me until I finally save my cpp file.
By jove, I think I've got it now....

Have you ever considered hitting the "OK" button on the Save window*
That works for many of us.

What version of VS is this? Mine autosaves every time I start debugging...for the most part, that setting is optimal...or did you code nonstop for 6 hours without debugging?

Or even compiling - my system saves every time I press CTRL+SHIFT+B

I mean six hours.. Where 1 hour means 60 minutes ! And you went on coding without saving or even running (Ctrl + F5) or debugging (F5) even once.. !
