In Arabic it sounds much more bond-villan-y: Da'ish
(ad)-Dawla Islamiyya fi Iraq wa (ash)-Sham.
You can just see the leader of Da'ish stroking a cat now, from his volcano la-yer*. The leader of ISIS is more likely to be giving freedom to oil-rich nations of the world.

Actually, cutting the "hedge" is nor very common in Scandinavia. It is mostly limited to certain non-Christian religious groups.
That euphemism is quite new to me, though.
