I was not paying too much attention but...
Is it that .NET 4.5 is supported by the C# 5 compiler?
I read about the upcoming C# 6 and the next version of .NET is .NET5 I would think...
When did both become different?
Or am I just confused?

This is nothing new:
C# 1.0; released with .NET 1.0 and VS2002 (January 2002)
C# 1.2 (bizarrely enough); released with .NET 1.1 and VS2003 (April 2003). First version to call Dispose on IEnumerators which implemented IDisposable. A few other small features.
C# 2.0; released with .NET 2.0 and VS2005 (November 2005). Major new features: generics, anonymous methods, nullable types, iterator blocks
C# 3.0; released with .NET 3.5 and VS2008 (November 2007). Major new features: lambda expressions, extension methods, expression trees, anonymous types, implicit typing (var), query expressions
C# 4.0; released with .NET 4 and VS2010 (April 2010). Major new features: late binding (dynamic), delegate and interface generic variance, more COM support, named arguments and optional parameters
C# 5.0; released with .NET 4.5 in August 2012. Major features: async programming, caller info attributes.
It is a paradox that paradoxes would actually exist in reality.
That means of course that they don't exist.
However, they do!

However its worth noting that .NET Versions also always have a specific CLR
.NET 1.1 -> CLR 1.1.4322.2443
.NET 2.0 -> CLR 2.0.50727.3615
.NET 3.0 -> CLR 2.0.50727.3615
.NET 3.5 -> CLR 2.0.50727.3615
.NET 4.0 -> CLR 4.0.30319.269
.NET 4.5 -> CLR 4.0.30319.17379
Note that each CLR version can be installed side by side safe for the CLR 4.0 version which came with .NET 4.5. This version replaces the CLR from 4.0 (but is still backwards compatible to it)

True.
Also notable about CLR4 and .NET Framework4+:
The Dynamic Language Runtime[^] (introduced in .NET Framework 4), added support for dynamic languages[^] to the CLR

that's when I get confused!

C# or course is a language while .Net is framework/api on which C# depends.
First ones were in sync because they were the first ones and because they were developed together.

I tried working out what's best for me but too much marketing and different opinions.
I want a device that my wife and 2 year old can use at home with Wi-Fi. Good camera for home shots of daughter, Internet access through Wi=Fi and some Apps downloads.
Have desk top for everything else.
Cheap unit because daughter doesn't play nice.
any recommendations?

"Cheap" and "Good" don't generally play well together!
The Cheap end of the market (Android tablets on FleaBay are from about £50) aren't good - accuracy of finger is not generally good, and reliability is pretty poor.
Your camera need rules out the Nexus and the Kindle which only have front facing, which is useless for photography. And then you're up into Apple territory, with Apple pricing and this week's model.
I think you would probably be better off getting a Nexus or Kindle and a smartphone for the camera!

Yep! I'm not that fond of smartphone cameras myself, but they do fit in a pocket, which means you have it with you when you want it.

Yes - and you start running out of pockets pretty quickly!
I carry my wallet, my phone, my tablet, my reading glasses, my keys and some cash and that runs me right out...

I used to have one of those when I was about 11, and even with kid's fingers those buttons were tricky.
