OK - whilst you amused yourselves with online chatter I just finished mowing my lawn.
I hate mowing the lawn. Even piling up all the glass clippings and knowing they'll be the compost of the future is little consolation. When we used to have someone come and do it every other week they mowed our flowers (even when told 3x not to). Their predecessor also had disdain for flora.
So take my warning as advice:
- Never Fertilize your lawn.
- Never Water your lawn.
Both of these will only make it grow faster and that will only cause you to have to mow it more often. WTF would you want to do that?

I laid a new lawn three weeks ago and I will water it for a few more weeks unless it rains and until it's growing nicely.
Then it's on its own.

I always thought the key to a lush lawn was to concrete your lawn and have a minute crack in it, with in 2 weeks it will be covered...

I dug the garden over two years ago, only just got round to turfing it. Tried seeding but with the Viscous Wolf Hound it was a waste of time.

That might apply. My male greyhound Bacchus gets 'clingy' whenever a thunderstorm develops. He's from a racing kennel in Florida, so we think he had a traumatic experience at some point related to a tropical storm or hurricane.
'Clingy' means you have an 80 pound, 30 inch tall dog leaning on you who has a case of the shakes and is whining(*).
(*) Bacchus, the Greek and Roman god of, er, whine. We named him before we knew he didn't bark, he just whines.

Admittedly, within the limits of potential frosts, you can grow or not grow whatever you want anywhere you want - but I do like that I can plant a garden and once the produce gets through its smaller stages it will b e watered by the heavens throughout the spring, summer, and early fall. And spring here is a beautiful thing = trees in white and pink and green. As is usual in life, there's no real free ride - whatever you get you had to give.
To show some sort of solidarity, however, I have an every growing (indoor) cactus garden - all started from seeds. Even a few succulents, although the seeds from those are so small and the seedlings so tiny and frail that I've only been able to keep a few percent alive. There's something fascinating in the desert-adapted plants.

Actually, my father had some of those "special" gardeners come in and plant a nice patio, front and back. He could sit on the patio in the summer and watch the neighbors mow their lawns.
One of the cool things about planting a cement lawn is you only need to water it once!

I find mowing the lawn to be a nice, monotonous, meditative experience. I often solve programming bugs / algorithm issues mowing the lawn.
